Say Cheese, Please–Make June Appointment by Monday, June 26

Each month, the marketing office schedules a photographer to take a small number of head shots, available on a first-come, first-served basis. The June session is Tuesday, June 27, from 11:30 a.m. to noon. This is the only time available in June. To confirm an appointment, please e-mail mktg@up.edu no later than 3 p.m. on Monday, June 26. Photos will be taken in Clark Library’s Digital Lab, located on the second floor. Only those with confirmed appointments may attend.  Please note: These appointments are limited to faculty and staff who currently do not have a professional headshot in the online directory.

Web Team Nominated for Innovation Award for New UP Website

The interdepartmental Web Team has been nominated for the “Best Innovation” award by Hannon Hill. The University of Portland’d website was nominated against those from Washoe County Nevada and Sarah Lawrence College. The winner will be announced at the annual Cascade Server Conference in Atlanta later this fall.

The new UP website was launched last summer with a brand new look and content management system (CMS). The new CMS, Cascade Server, was installed last spring and has replaced Sherpa for all content management on UP’s main website, up.edu.

The University’s interdepartmental web team includes Lisel Stancil (web and enterprise services), Amy Shelly (marketing), Ryan Benedetti (web and enterprise services), Jacob Caniparoli (web and enterprise services), John Carleton (web and enterprise services), Adam Murakami (web and enterprise services), Anna Lageson-Kerns (marketing), and Roya Ghorbani-Elizeh (marketing).

Got a Great Student or Alumni Story? Send it to Marketing!

The marketing and communications office is always looking for stories about the marvelously talented and dedicated students and alumni who make up our community. Faculty, staff, students, alumni, parents–anyone who wants to share information about what our students do to make the world a better place can now submit their stories to the marketing office at this link. The marketing office can then share information with colleagues in University relations and feature students in brochures, publications, and local and national media.

February’s session is next Tuesday, February 28, from 11:30 a.m. to noon. To confirm an appointment, please e-mail mktg@up.edu by Friday, February 24, at 4 p.m. These photos will be taken in Clark Library’s Digital Lab, located on the second floor.

Please note: Participants must be able to attend between 11:30 a.m. and noon. Only those with confirmed appointments should attend. Those who have never had a professional head shot taken are highly encouraged to attend one of these monthly sessions. The photos will be used on the UP website’s directory.

You’re Invited: Laurie Kelley’s Farewell Party, Dec. 18

Laurie_C_Kelley copyAll University faculty and staff are invited to wish Laurie Kelley a fond farewell on Friday, December 18, from 2 to 3 p.m., in the Pilot House. Laurie will be leaving her position as vice president of University relations to become president and chief development officer for the Providence Foundations throughout the Oregon region.

She joined the University as director of marketing and communications in October 2006, and has directed many of the University’s signature events including Focus the Nation, the Rise Campaign launch and conclusion ceremonies, the Salute to Heroes, the State of UP, the Pamplin School of Business’ 75th Anniversary, the School of Nursing’s 75th Anniversary, and the Rise for Scholarships Event, which raised over $1.3 million for scholarships. She joined the administration as vice president for University relations in February 2014 after serving in an interim capacity since October 2013.

Prior to coming to UP, Laurie was vice president of marketing and planning at Oregon Public Broadcasting (OPB). Please plan to attend and thank Laurie for leaving such a lasting imprint on the University of Portland, whose future and mission have always been near and dear to her heart, not to mention the focus of her boundless energy and enthusiasm.

Deadlines For 2014-2015 Bulletin Revisions

Updates to the narrative section of the 2014-2015 University Bulletin (program descriptions, requirements, anything but the course descriptions section) were due to reviewers by Monday, March 17, according to Matt Baasten, associate provost.

While all schools and departments are set up differently, in most cases “reviewers” are deans or associate deans; updated bulletin sections are submitted to them by “editors,” who can be admin assistants, program specialists, department chairs, or whoever is tasked with bulletin updates in each program or office.

Reviewers must submit their sections for approval (approvers are Matt Baasten and Marc Covert, no need to submit separately) by Monday, March 31. The publication deadline for the online 2014-2015 Bulletin is Wednesday, May 14. A calendar with deadlines for bulletin updates through 2016-2017 can be found on the registrar’s webpage at http://www.up.edu/showimage/show.aspx?file=21431.

As in the past two academic years, all updates will be made through the Sitecore updating tool provided to UP by Smartcatalog. Stationery Reprint Changes

printerTo help streamline the ordering and printing process, the marketing and communications office is transferring the coordination of stationery reprint orders to printing services. This will allow printing services to manage the stationery requests from start to finish. This new process applies to all general stationery needs, such as office letterhead and envelopes. Please use the stationery reprint order form to place orders. The form is available at this link. If you are ordering materials as part of a mailing or as a part of an invitation packet, electronic letterhead, or specialized letterhead, these items will still be handled through marketing and communications.
