Faculty, staff, and students are invited to a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) informational meeting on Monday, March 18, at 6 p.m. in Franz Hall Murphy Room (room 426). The MAT is an intensive program designed to prepare individuals with baccalaureate degrees for teaching in K-12 schools. MAT graduates earn a masters degree and are eligible for Oregon initial licensure at two contiguous levels of authorization: early childhood, elementary, middle and/or high school. Flex-Plan Grace Period
Employees who participated in Flex-Plan for the 2012 calendar year have a grace period of January 1, 2013 to March 15, 2013 that will allow them to maximize their 2012 benefit. Employees have until March 31, 2013 to submit claims for expenses incurred on March 15, 2013 or before.

2013 Service Honor Roll
The University of Portland has been named to the 2013 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll by the Corporation for National and Community Service, one of eight Oregon colleges that made the Honor Roll list. This marks the sixth time the University of Portland has made the Honor Roll since its inception in 2006.
The Honor Roll annually recognizes institutions of higher education for their commitment to and achievement in community service. Honorees are chosen based on scope and innovation of service projects, percentage of student participation in service activities, incentives for service, and the extent to which the school offers academic service-learning courses. The Committee on Teaching and Scholarship is soliciting proposals from faculty and staff to host workshops, roundtables, and presentations during Faculty Development Day, to be held on Tuesday, May 7, according to Aziz Inan, committee chair. Proposals related in some way to the promotion of teaching, scholarship, or professional development are encouraged. Global ADE Fundraising Dinner
All faculty, staff, and students are welcome to attend the Global ADE Third Annual Fundraising dinner to support education in Cambodia on Friday, March 22, 6 to 9 p.m., in the Bauccio Commons board room. Global ADE was founded by University of Portland alumni and is a 501(c)3 registered non-profit organization that partners with organizations in rural Cambodia to give students the opportunity to pursue a quality education. The night includes a live and silent auction with exciting items such as a four night stay in Mexico. Cost is $50 per person or $500 per table of 10. Spring Break Hours
The library has switched to its spring break schedule starting at 5 p.m. on Friday, March 8. The Terrace Room was closed during the first weekend of the break and weekday public hours will be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Staff will still be working weekdays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. and can be contacted by phone or e-mail if you have questions or need something outside of those publicly open hours. $200,000 Donation To RISE Campaign
The development office has announced a RISE Campaign donation of $200,000 from Mucki (Pei Ling) Tan, CEO and majority owner of PT Rodamas, a consumer distribution and real estate company based in Jakarta, Indonesia. Tan, a 1980 graduate of the University’s Pamplin School of Business, is a resident of Singapore. Tan’s company does business worldwide in construction materials, basic chemicals, consumer goods, food, and packaging.
Tan’s donation is part of the University’s RISE Campaign, which was announced in December 2010 and seeks to raise $175 million over the next several years. The RISE Campaign, which has raised more than $143 million to date, is one of the largest development campaigns ever for a Pacific Northwest private college or university.
Lisa Sedlar Lecture, March 19
Lisa Sedlar, former CEO of New Seasons Market, will be a featured speaker for the Dr. Robert B. Pamplin Jr. School of Business Administration’s 2013 Leadership Speakers Series on Tuesday, March 19, at 7:10 p.m., in the Bauccio Commons Board Room. Her lecture is free and open to all.
Sedlar resigned from her position at New Seasons Market in 2012 to launch her own chain of small convenience stores, Green Zebra Grocery, that will feature healthier options for shoppers and focus on sustainable business practices. The first two stores are planned to open in the Woodstock neighborhood in Southeast Portland and the Kenton neighborhood in North Portland. State Of UP And Alumni Awards
University president Rev. E. William Beauchamp, C.S.C., will give his annual State of the University Address and present the 2013 Alumni Awards on Tuesday, March 19.
