State of the University Address, Alumni Awards, March 1

poorman approved 150University president Rev. Mark L. Poorman, C.S.C., will deliver the annual State of the University Address and present the 2016 Alumni Awards on Tuesday, March 1, at the Sentinel Hotel (614 SW 11th, Portland). Doors open at 11:30 a.m., with the program from noon to 1 p.m. Seating is limited; cost is $20 per person or $200 for a table of 10. Register online at this link. Registration closes on Wednesday, February 24.

Fr. Poorman’s talk will include an update on the new student residence hall taking shape on N. Willamette Boulevard and many other factors affecting the University’s success.

Also on the agenda will be the annual Alumni Awards. This year’s winners are Joe Hollman ’64, Distinguished Alumni Award; Julie Johnson ’86, Rev. Thomas C. Oddo, C.S.C., Outstanding Service Alumni Award; Shane Deckert ’07, Contemporary Alumni Award, and UP senior Shelley West ’16, winner of the Thomas A. Gerhardt ’55 Memorial Award for Student Leadership.

Nominations For Annual Alumni Awards Due By Dec. 14

awardsEach year the University of Portland Alumni Association presents awards to alumni for their outstanding contributions to their professional fields, for their dedication to volunteer endeavors, and for their ongoing support of the University and its mission. Alumni may be nominated in the following three categories by Sunday, December 14:

  • Dinstinguished Alumni Award: Established in 1960 and renamed in 1982, the Distinguished Alumni Award recognizes alumni who have rendered distinguished service to the University and to their community. Submit nomination or view previous recipients.
  • Rev. Thomas C. Oddo, C.S.C., Outstanding Service Award: Established in 1983 and rededicated in 1991 to honor late University president Rev. Thomas C. Oddo, C.S.C., the Outstanding Service Award recognizes alumni who have demonstrated the University’s mission through volunteerism. Submit nomination or view previous recipients.
  • Contemporary Alumni Award: Established in 1995, the Contemporary Alumni Award recognizes alumni graduates of the past 15 years for significant professional contributions to the community and support of the University.

Fr. Beauchamp’s talk will include an update on the $175 million RISE Campaign for the University of Portland, and other factors affecting the University’s success. Also on the agenda will be the annual Alumni Awards. This year’s winners are Clara Bickford Halvorson ’48, winner of the Distinguished Alumni Award; Joe Womac ’00, winner of the Fr. Tom Oddo, C.S.C. Outstanding Service Award; Rachel Prusynski ’09, winner of the Contemporary Alumni Award; and UP senior Gilbert Resendez, winner of the Thomas A. Gerhardt ’55 Memorial Award for Student Leadership.
