Leadership Speaker Series: Chris Corrado, March 31

corrado150Chris Corrado, president and CEO of Environments, will speak on Monday, March 31, at 7:10 p.m., in Buckley Center Auditorium. The event, free and open to all, is sponsored by the Franz Center for Leadership, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation and is part of the center’s Leadership Speaker Series. Corrado, a 1982 graduate of the University, serves on a number of boards including Catholic Charities of Oregon, Providence St. Vincent Medical Foundation, and Mt. Angel Abbey Foundation. He is also an advisor to the dean of the Pamplin School of Business. Corrado will speak on his career and leadership philosophy. DJ Wilson Leadership Speaker Series Lecture, March 24

DJ WilsonDJ Wilson, president and general manager of KGW Media Group Portland since 2007, will be the guest speaker for the University of Portland’s Leadership Speaker Series at 7:10 p.m. on Monday, March 24, in Buckley Center Auditorium. Her talk is free and open to faculty, staff, students, alumni, and the public.

Wilson is president of the Professional Advisory Board for the Edward R. Murrow College of Communications at Washington State University, and has served two terms on the board of governors of the WSU Foundation. In 2012, Wilson was inducted into the Edward R. Murrow Hall of Achievement and received the Portland Business Journal “No Glass Ceiling” female leadership award.

The Leadership Speaker Series features business leaders and innovators from around the region and is sponsored by the Franz Center for Leadership, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation and the Pamplin School of Business Administration. Audigy Group has grown from a startup in 2004 to managing more than 650 locations and 1,700 full-time employees with $250M in aggregate revenue today. The event, free and open to all, is sponsored by the Franz Center for Leadership, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation as part of their Leadership Speaker Series.

Founded by Nelson in 2003, Ruby Receptionists serves more than 2,600 small business professionals throughout North America. Jim Murphy Lecture

Jim Murphy, a 1991 MBA graduate of the University and executive vice president/international at Costco Wholesale, will be a featured speaker for the Dr. Robert B. Pamplin Jr. School of Business Administration’s 2013 Leadership Speakers Series on Tuesday, April 2, at 7:10 p.m., in the Bauccio Commons Board Room. His lecture is free and open to all.

Murphy is responsible for directing the activities and expansion of Costco’s operations outside of North America and for U.S.-based global buying and export groups. Lisa Sedlar Lecture, March 19

Lisa Sedlar, former CEO of New Seasons Market, will be a featured speaker for the Dr. Robert B. Pamplin Jr. School of Business Administration’s 2013 Leadership Speakers Series on Tuesday, March 19, at 7:10 p.m., in the Bauccio Commons Board Room. Her lecture is free and open to all.

Sedlar resigned from her position at New Seasons Market in 2012 to launch her own chain of small convenience stores, Green Zebra Grocery, that will feature healthier options for shoppers and focus on sustainable business practices. The first two stores are planned to open in the Woodstock neighborhood in Southeast Portland and the Kenton neighborhood in North Portland. Barb Braband, Rebecca Gaudino, and Anissa Rogers received a Teaching Poster Award for the presentation of “Innovations in Interdisciplinary Education on Grief: An Interview Project” at the 2019 National Symposium for Academic Palliative Care Education and Research in San Diego, CA, on Oct. 12, 2019.  The 2019 National Symposium was sponsored by the Shiley Institute for Palliative Care.

Jane Scott, Clark Library, presented a poster, “Empowering ethical practices: Activities for access services” (with Heidi Senior) at the Access Services Conference, Atlanta, GA, November 2019.

Christina Ivler, Shiley School of Engineering, wrote “Frequency-Response and Frequency-Domain Models” and “Classical Frequency-Domain Design Methods” (with J. Buck Taylor, chemistry, wrote “Cooperative CO2 Scission by Anomalous Insertion into a Rh–Si Bond” (with Matthew Whited, Daron Janzen, and student coauthors Michael Trenerry, Jia Zhang, Theodore Donnell, Paul Peterson, Vanessa Eng) in Organometallics , November 2019 , 38 , 4420–4432.

Ami Ahern-Rindell, biology, was invited to be a member of a 3-person review panel to participate in onsite campus visits during  October 29 – November 1 to review several PUIs (Predominantly Undergraduate Institutions) in Oklahoma who are recipients of an NIH-INBRE Consortium Award. This multi-million dollar grant provides funding for 5 years to improve biomedical research across the state of Oklahoma collaboratively between research intensive universities, PUIs, and Community Colleges.

Lora Looney,  international languages and cultures, gave a faculty workshop on “Unpacking the Project First to Identify a Course’s Driving Question(s) Towards Teaching for Understanding” at the 39th Original Lilly Conference on College Teaching at Miami University in Oxford, OH, on November 22.
