List Student Jobs Now, Please

August 7, 2015

Jobs150The fall/spring academic year hiring period begins on August 15, according to Laura Barnard, financial aid. Over the next weeks, hundreds of students will be checking the online job board to find a job for fall semester. Listing job openings on the online job board is the most efficient way to ensure departments get the most qualified applicants for available positions and ensures equal job access for all students. Student job listings are needed as soon as possible.

Departments hiring student employees this fall are asked to submit job openings prior to August 15 through the jobs tool web site at https://appstwo.up.edu/studentjobs. All fall job postings will go live on August 15 for students to view. You may contact Barnard at 7311 or studentemployment@up.edu as soon as positions are filled and she will remove them from the job board.

RAs will also be able to assist in getting each department’s name and mission out to the on-campus student population.

To set up a table at this year’s Campus Resource Fair, contact Bryn Rose, residence life, at roseb@up.edu by Wednesday, August 12.

Hiring Requirements For Fall Semester Student Workers

August 7, 2015

dreamstime youre hiredAll student supervisors need to make sure each of their student employees is officially on the department’s payroll before allowing students to begin working for fall semester, according to Laura Barnard, financial aid. All new student employees must submit a completed referral form to financial aid before their first day on the job. New student workers who have never worked on campus before must fill out a Form I-9 and a Form W-4 before receiving a referral form and before they may begin working. Completing the Form I-9 includes providing proof of identity and eligibility to work in the United States by providing original, unexpired documents such as:

  • Social Security card and picture ID
  • Birth certificate and picture ID
  • U.S. passport.

If a student has been working during the summer and will continue in that same job for the fall the student does not need to submit a new referral form. Also, if a student was rehired on the rehire roster last spring, the student will not need to submit a new referral form for the fall. To verify whether a student may begin working in the fall, contact Barnard at 7311 or studentemployment@up.edu.

Teachers, Parents Take Note: New Recommendation For Meningitis B Vaccine

July 31, 2015

1aFlu Shot Child.150jpgThe Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has recommended that decisions to vaccinate adolescents and young adults 16 through 23 years of age against serogroup B meningococcal disease (MenB) should be made at the individual level with healthcare providers, according to Susan Chisum, health center. College students, who spend lots of time together in close quarters, are more likely to catch and spread meningitis. The University health center recommends that students and their families discuss the matter with their health care providers to determine if they should receive the vaccine.

To learn more about Meningitis B, please click on this link or contact the University Health Center at 7134 or health@up.edu.
