Campus Resource Fair Coming August 14

The Office of Residence Life will be hosting their annual Campus Resource Fair during resident assistant training on Wednesday, August 14, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., in the Mehling Ballroom. All campus partners are invited to participate. This is an opportunity to connect resident assistants (RAs) to as many campus partners as possible, who can share information on how they can support the RAs in programming efforts, and for RAs to assist in getting each campus department’s name and mission out to on-campus residents.

Campus Resource Fair, Aug. 17: You’re Invited!

The Resource Fair will be held on Friday, August 17, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. This is an opportunity to connect resident assistants (RAs) to as many departments on campus as possible and to provide them with programming knowledge and ideas, and for RAs to assist in getting each department’s name and mission out to on-campus residents.

Farewell to Alex Hermanny: Come Wish Him Well

Please join the Office of Residence Life in sending a warm farewell to Alex Hermanny, who will depart UP on Friday, September 30, for his new role as student conduct coordinator at the University of Minnesota. There will be a reception celebrating Alex’s five years of service to UP in the Holy Cross Lounge in Franz Hall on Friday, September 30, from 3:30 to 5 p.m., and all are welcome to wish Alex well.

Alex joined UP in July of 2011 as Schoenfeldt Hall director and served in that role for two academic years. In June 2013, he joined the central office as associate director for housing, before being named associate director for community standards in January 2015. In addition, he served on the University’s strategic planning committee, and as a Dexheimer Fellow with the Franz Center for Leadership this past year.

This is an excellent opportunity to connect resident assistants (RAs) to as many departments on campus as possible and, in return, for RAs to assist in getting each department’s name and services out to campus residents. The Resource Fair will be held on Friday, August 21, from 12:45 to 2 p.m. This is an opportunity to connect resident assistants to as many departments on campus as possible and to potentially provide them with programming knowledge and ideas. RAs will also be able to assist in getting each department’s name and mission out to the on-campus student population.

Anita Gooding, social work, was selected as a 2020-2021 Field Research Scholar by the Transforming Field Education Landscape (TFEL) program at the University of Calgary in Alberta, Canada. Scholars attend regular seminars and present their own research related to strengthening field education in social work.

Bob Butler, professor emeritus of environmental studies; Jenda Johnson, Earth Sciences Animated; and Nic Zentner, Central Washington University, published an animation titled “Ghost Forests: Evidence for a Giant Earthquake & Tsunami in the Pacific Northwest.” This animation explores how Native American oral history, geology of ghost forests in coastal Washington and Oregon, and written accounts of a tsunami that flooded Japanese Pacific Coast villages converge to document the most recent Cascadia subduction zone megathrust earthquake on January 26, 1700 at about 9 p.m. The Ghost Forest animation can be found on the IRIS website at: https://www.iris.edu/hq/inclass/animation/740 or on YouTube at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4xPbt8iiDRo&feature=youtu.be.
