ShareUP Portal Updates: Resources For Users

December 11, 2020

There are two updates pertaining to the ShareUP online portal, according to Chris Long, marketing and communications:

  • The Marketing & Communications Division will host virtual support hours on Zoom every Wednesday afternoon at 1 p.m., beginning December 9. For those faculty, staff, and students who have questions or comments about ShareUP and would like to virtually chat please use this Zoom link during the scheduled time.
  • ShareUP Virtual Training was hosted on the Zoom platform on December 2. That training session was recorded and can be viewed in its entirety by using this link.

ShareUP is available on the MyApps and PilotsUP pages. On the login page select “ShareUP Login” to gain access.

ShareUP Training Via Zoom, Dec. 2

The marketing and communications division will host virtual training for those faculty and staff wanting to learn more about the ShareUP online portal on Wednesday, December 2, at 1 p.m., using the Zoom platform.

ShareUP allows faculty and staff to search, download, create, and learn about such brand elements as templates, logos, colors, fonts, and available photography. ShareUP thus provides a comprehensive and creative resource to support UP-branded marketing and promotional materials.

Lifetime Achievement Award for Michael Lewellen, Marketing & Communications VP

Michael Lewellen, vice president of marketing and communications, will receive the 2020 William W. Marsh Lifetime Achievement Award by the Public Relations Society of America – Oregon Chapter during their virtual Spotlight Awards Gala on Thursday, December 3.

William Marsh was a leading figure in the public relations profession in Oregon for nearly 40 years, and was president of the Portland Metro PRSA Chapter (now PRSA Oregon) in 1963. Aside from his time in the profession, Marsh taught at Marylhurst University from 1986-1993, before passing away in 1996 at age 81. This award was established and named for him in 1986.

During the Marsh Award segment, University president Rev. Mark L. Poorman, C.S.C., and Portland Trail Blazers CEO Chris McGowan will offer video comments on Lewellen’s service in the public relations field during his 38-year career. Because the Spotlight Awards are virtual this year, those who would like to watch the event can reserve free tickets using this link.

ShareUP Portal Launching Nov. 18

The marketing and communications office would like to announce the launch of ShareUP on November 18, 2020. ShareUP is an online portal where University of Portland faculty and staff can search, download, create, and learn about such brand elements as templates, logos, colors, fonts, and available photography. ShareUP will provide a comprehensive and creative resource to support UP-branded marketing and promotional materials for internal and external audiences.

The ShareUP portal will be available through the MyApps page and the QuickLaunch in PilotsUP beginning November 18.

By launching ShareUP, marketing and communications will help the campus community deliver consistent, high-quality printed and online content and empower ShareUP users to become skilled brand ambassadors.

Each month, the marketing office schedules a photographer to take a small number of head shots, available on a first-come, first-served basis, for our online directory. The next session is Tuesday, January 28, 11 to noon, in Clark Library’s Digital Lab, located on the second floor, Room 215. To schedule an appointment or for questions, please e-mail Suzanne Frey at freys@up.edu no later than 3 p.m. on Monday, January 27.

Only those with confirmed appointments may attend.  Please note: These appointments are limited to faculty and staff who currently do not have a professional headshot in the online directory.

The October session is Tuesday, October 24, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. To schedule an appointment, please e-mail Suzanne Frey at freys@up.edu no later than 3 p.m. on Monday, October 23.  Photos will be taken in Clark Library’s Digital Lab, located on the second floor, room 215. Silver CASE Award for Marketing/Development Team

casesilverThe marketing and communications office worked with development to create the “Your Gift Sparks…” online end-of-year giving campaign, which won a Silver Award in Innovation in Fundraising in the 2017 Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) District VIII Communication Awards competition. This latest award joins Portland Magazine‘s Bronze Award in in the category “Print General Interest Magazines, circulation less than 29,999.” CASE District VIII encompasses colleges and universities in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Alaska, and all of western Canada.

Bronze CASE Award for Portland Magazine

case_bronze-copyThe University’s quarterly Portland Magazine has earned a Bronze Award from the 2017 CASE District VIII Communication Awards in the category “Print General Interest Magazines, circulation less than 29,999.”

The Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) District VIII encompasses colleges and universities in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Alaska, and all of western Canada.

November’s session is Tuesday, November 29, at 11:30 a.m. To confirm an appointment for this session, please e-mail mktg@up.edu by Friday, November 25, at 4 p.m. Photos will be taken in Clark Library’s Digital Lab located on the second floor.

Please note: Participants must be able to attend at 11:30 a.m. Only those with confirmed appointments should attend. Those who have never had a professional head shot taken are highly encouraged to attend one of these monthly sessions. The photos will be used on the UP website directory.

Silver, Merit Awards in 2017 Graphis Design Annual

trophydtThe Graphis Design Annual, an international competition that began in Switzerland more than seven decades ago, recently announced the winners of its 2017 competition. Lightner Design, working closely with the University’s marketing and communications office, received a Silver award for its work on the University of Portland’s admissions brochures, a series including Preview, Campus Visits, Financial Aid, and Study Abroad brochures. Lightner also received a Merit award for the University of Portland Outcomes brochure.

The Admissions brochure series will be presented as a Silver recipient in the 2017 Graphis Design Annual, a hardcover book that will be distributed internationally. The Outcomes brochure will be listed in the annual. Both projects will be displayed on the Graphis website.

Anita Gooding, social work, was selected as a 2020-2021 Field Research Scholar by the Transforming Field Education Landscape (TFEL) program at the University of Calgary in Alberta, Canada. Scholars attend regular seminars and present their own research related to strengthening field education in social work.

Aziz Inan, Shiley School of Engineering. recently shared some of his work on palindrome dates with the staff of Farmers’ Almanac which lead to an articled titled “2021: A Special Year For Palindrome Dates, Starting This Month!” See the article using this link.

Bob Butler, professor emeritus of environmental studies; Jenda Johnson, Earth Sciences Animated; and Nic Zentner, Central Washington University, published an animation titled “Ghost Forests: Evidence for a Giant Earthquake & Tsunami in the Pacific Northwest.” This animation explores how Native American oral history, geology of ghost forests in coastal Washington and Oregon, and written accounts of a tsunami that flooded Japanese Pacific Coast villages converge to document the most recent Cascadia subduction zone megathrust earthquake on January 26, 1700 at about 9 p.m. The Ghost Forest animation can be found on the IRIS website at: https://www.iris.edu/hq/inclass/animation/740 or on YouTube at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4xPbt8iiDRo&feature=youtu.be.

Steven Kolmes, environmental studies, wrote an editorial on “Sustainability and the Role of Higher Education” in Environment: Science and Policy for Sustainable Development, Vol. 62, , pp. 2-3. Amber Vermeesch, nursing, received an Opus Prize Foundation Grant Sabbatical Support, Opus Prize Foundation, $5,000, on November 12, 2020.
