International students and others from the UP community will offer public calls for peace in their native languages on Friday, November 11, at 2 p.m., at the Buckley Center International Peace Garden. All students, faculty, and staff of all faiths, spiritual traditions, and languages are invited to participate by offering a prayer for peace in their native language. Faculty, Staff Needed for International Education Week, Nov. 14-19
International Education Week (IEW) is a global initiative to celebrate international education and exchange, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State and Department of Education. IEW celebrates internationalization and diversity on college campuses across the nation each November. This year, the University of Portland will celebrate IEW from November 14-19.
The IEW team is seeking faculty, staff, and student group collaboration to highlight international exchange and education on campus. Please consider hosting an event during the week to share or promote international and intercultural programs, research, student projects, and more. The IEW coordinating team will assist in promoting the week of events, speakers, music, and workshops to the UP campus and community.

International Student Graduation Reception, April 29
International student services will be hosting their annual International Student Graduation Reception on Friday, April 29, from 2:30 to 4 p.m., in the Shiley Hall third floor atrium. Faculty and staff who worked closely with international students who are graduating are welcome to join in the celebration.

Come To International Night, Feb. 26
All are invited to attend the University of Portland’s International Night on Friday, February 26, from 5-8 p.m., in the Bauccio Commons. Enjoy an evening of international sights, sounds, tastes, and smells while traveling around the world with the diverse music and dance of local and regional performers. Professional performances from Filipina singer-songwriter Haley Heynderickx will begin at 6:15 p.m., and Mexican Folkloric music from Edna Vazquez and her band will begin at 7 p.m. International students will also be sharing their culture at the Showcase of Nations.
Enjoy live performances and the company of friends while savoring international dishes from Bon Appetit, priced a la carte. Admission to the show is free. Families are encouraged to attend. Performer and event updates will continue to be posted at www.up.edu/iew.
This event is hosted as part of Diversity Dialogues Week and is sponsored by the International Club, the Office of International Student Services, and ASUP.
Celebrate International Education Week, Nov. 16-22
International Education Week is here, and from November 16-22, the University of Portland is hosting campus-wide events open to the broader UP community and the public. All during the week, international cuisine will be featured in the Bauccio Commons; photos can be sent using #UPIEW and #IEW2015 for a chance to win $25; and tickets to Riverdance on November 11 can be purchased for $15 through the performing and fine arts department.
- Monday: Celebrate Saudi National Day from 1:30pm-3:30 p.m. at the Bauccio Commons; learn about Saudi Arabia history. Cheer at the internationally-themed Women’s basketball game at 7 p.m. in the Chiles Center.
- Tuesday: Try snacks from around the world from 4:30-5:30 p.m. at international student center; hear Native American stories from storyteller Ed Edmo and eat fry bread from 7-8 p.m. at St. Mary’s; talk about the Pillars of Immigration from 7-9 p.m. at Mago Hunt Recital Hall; and participate in an Islander cook off from 4-6 p.m. at the Bauccio Commons.
- Wednesday: Hear from Barbara Braband, Mike Pelley, Rev. James Gallagher, C.S.C., and Blair Woodward as they discuss what international education means at UP. Panel discussion facilitated by Eduardo Contereras. 5-6 p.m., Terrace Room.
- Thursday: Sushi Workshop (event is full and not accepting reservations). From 6:30-8:30 p.m., visit the Bell Tower for a German Lantern Festival hosted by the German Club. Also, try a variety of French cheeses at 6 p.m. at Buckley Center Room 207.
- Friday: From 6-9 p.m. at the Terrace Room, join Filipino American Student Association and Portland Committee for Human Rights in the Philippines to celebrate and learn more about Filipino history and culture. Filipino cuisine provided.
- Sunday: Riverdance tickets are being sold at the performing and fine arts department for $15. Watch traditional Irish dance at 1 p.m.

International Night This Saturday, Nov. 22
All are welcome to bring the whole family to enjoy an evening of international sights, sounds, tastes, and smells at the 51st annual University of Portland International Night on Saturday, November 22, in the Bauccio Commons, from 5 to 8 p.m.
The night will begin with dinner and a selection of world and African music spun by DJ SOLO, a local favorite for global music-infused dance parties. Members of Portland Taiko will take the stage with their hypnotic and heart-pounding Japanese drums. A fashion show displaying the attire of cultures all around the world will be followed by a dazzling collage of dances from Europe, the Middle East, Latin America, and the Pacific Islands. The mesmerizing MexicaTiahui Aztec Dance Group will demonstrate and teach Native American dance and drumming traditions from Mexico. DJ SOLO will return to close the night with an African dance party.
Enjoy live performances and the company of friends while savoring international dishes from Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas. Students from Germany, China, Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, Taiwan, Mexico, Peru, and more will showcase their cultures at the Showcase of Nations. Event attendees can take home a free photo strip memento from the night by piling into the Red Curtain Photo Booth with friends, family and global attire.
