Prayers for Peace, Nov. 11

All are invited to come together on Monday, November 11, at 2 p.m., at the International Peace Garden by Buckley Auditorium as students, faculty, staff, and religious from our UP community offer prayers for peace in multiple languages and faith traditions. All students, faculty, and staff of all faiths, spiritual traditions, and languages are warmly invited to participate by offering a prayer in their native language. Prayers For World Peace, Nov. 11

prayers for peace copyThe University will have calls for world peace in the International Peace Garden located outside of Buckley Center Auditorium on Tuesday, November 11, at 2 p.m. A few short readings will be given by international students, along with personal messages and prayers in their own languages and religions calling for world peace. This Week’s Garaventa Center Events: All Welcome

hannonThe Garaventa Center will host three events this week, according to Jamie Powell. All faculty, staff, and students are welcome to attend:

  • International Prayers for Peace, Tuesday, November 11, 2 p.m., International Peace Garden (Buckley Center patio).
  • Stanford economist (and 2006 UP alumnus) Adam Bonica will explore reasons why the U.S. political system has failed to counterbalance rising inequality in a lecture, “Why Hasn’t Democracy Slowed Rising Inequality?”, on Tuesday, November 11, at 7:15 p.m., Tuesday, November 11, in the Bauccio Commons executive boardroom.
  • Rev. Pat Hannon, C.S.C. (pictured), will present a book reading and conversation drawn from his experiences as a priest, memories of his childhood, and more on Thursday, November 13, at 7:15 p.m., in the Pilot House.

Dave Houglum, Franz Center for Leadership, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation, completed a six-year commitment on the Board of Directors for the Maybelle Center for Community, with two of those years serving as the Executive Board Secretary. Founded by Fr. Richard Berg, C.S.C. (former Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at University of Portland from 1978-1991), the Maybelle Center disrupts social isolation so we can all experience a healthy, connected life and contribute to a thriving Portland.

Aziz Inan, Shiley School of Engineering, published the article titled, “Numerical curiosities for Bob Moore’s 92nd birthday,” in Clackamas Review, Pamplin Media Group, Portland, Oregon, February 16, 2021.

Simon Aihiokhai, theology, was a manuscript reviewer for Springer’s Journal: SN Social Sciences.

Barbara Braband, Amber Vermeesch, Corey Pressman, nursing, published “Piloting the perfect Storm: A vision for the vital practitioner.” Journal of Nursing Education (accepted/in press).
