Submit Faculty Development Day Proposals By Feb. 1

The Committee on Teaching and Scholarship welcomes proposals to lead Faculty Development Day on May 7, 2019 around a particular theme.  Interested faculty should submit a 1-2 page proposal identifying the keynote speaker and breakout panels for session one of Faculty Development Day.  Sessions later in the day may remain open as opportunities for various and distinct panels proposed by faculty across campus.  If you are interested in putting forward a central theme for the keynote and session one please send your proposal to tas@up.edu by February 1.

Faculty Development Day, May 8: Session Proposals Welcome

On the Tuesday following commencement, University faculty traditionally celebrate and reflect upon the joys and toils of our noble profession and of a year well spent on the Bluff.  Faculty Development Day, taking place on May 8, 2018, is this very day. The theme of the day will be “Inclusive Excellence in the Student-Centered University,” which will be the subject of a morning keynote address and several mid-day sessions. Another University tradition is the offering of sessions by you and your peers on topics of interest to you and your peers. The Committee on Teaching and Scholarship is accepting proposals from faculty who would like to organize 45-minute sessions for Faculty Development Day. Please send your suggestions to committee chair Matthew Kuhn (tas@up.edu) by Friday, April 13, or, for the less sanguine, by Thursday, April 12.

Call For Proposals: Faculty Development Day

The Committee on Teaching and Scholarship welcomes proposals of themes for Faculty Development Day on May 8, 2018. The theme will be the morning’s focus of this special day. Interested faculty should submit a 1-2 page proposal identifying the keynote speaker and breakout panels for Session One of Faculty Development Day. Sessions later in the day will remain open for other distinct topics proposed by faculty across campus (these specialty sessions will be solicited in the spring).

Faculty Development Day Program Available

The program for Faculty Development Day, scheduled for Tuesday, May 9, is now available through the Committee on Teaching and Scholarship Moodle website or here. To save paper, the committee encourages faculty to download a copy of the program in advance so they can use it to orient themselves between sessions using their mobile devices. A limited number of paper copies of the program will be available on the day of the program.

Faculty Development Day Proposals Welcome

The Committee on Teaching and Scholarship is calling for interested faculty to submit proposals for panels and presentations as a part of Faculty Development Day on Tuesday, May 9. Proposals on a wide variety of topics are welcome including those which support the theme for Faculty Development Day.

This year’s theme is “Building Bridges of Dialogue: Making Sense of Our Catholicity in a Globalized World.”  At the heart of a Catholic university’s mission is its commitment to building bridges of dialogue. What strategies and practices can the University’s different disciplines employ to further this bridge building to meet the demands of a globalized world, where diverse cultures, religions, and peoples intersect?

2016 Faculty Development Day Schedule

wootton copyThe 2016 Faculty Development Day will take place on Tuesday, May 3, according to Aaron Wootton, Teaching and Scholarship Committee chair. The day’s schedule can be downloaded at this link.

Faculty will meet in Buckley Center Auditorium for a continental breakfast from 8:30 to 8:55 a.m., followed by a welcome from University provost Thomas Greene. A keynote address on student mental health by Andrew Downs, psychological sciences, and Will Meek, health center, will follow. Parallel sessions, a luncheon, and more parallel sessions will follow.

Sessions later in the day will remain open as opportunities for various and distinct panels proposed by faculty across campus.

Following the keynote will be a video presentation by Tanya Crenshaw, engineering (“A Community Against Violence”), and student presentations on inclusion (“What We Wish Our Professors Knew”). Parallel sessions, a luncheon, and more parallel sessions will follow.
