Prior to the Saturday, April 11 performance of Three Sisters by Anton Chekov, all ticket holders are invited to enjoy complimentary wine and cheese while listening to campus experts Candace McLean, theology, Mindi Logan, theater, and Elise Moentmann, history, as they highlight production details and illuminate important themes in the play. The reception begins at 6:30 p.m. in Mago Hunt Center lobby before moving into the recital hall for a panel discussion. Pope Francis Wants You!
Fr. Charlie Gordon, C.S.C., Garaventa Center, will present “Living the Joy of the Gospel With Pope Francis,” a fantastic précis of this papal exhortation, on Tuesday, April 14, at 3 p.m., in the Franz Hall Holy Cross lounge. All members of the UP community are invited to attend. Refreshments will be served. Winners of the Garaventa Center’s annual High School Essay Contest will be presented with their prizes immediately prior to Fr. Charlie’s talk. University Singers Musical Feast, April 18
The University Singers, directed by Michael Connolly, invite all UP community members to the inaugural Musical Feast on Saturday, April 18, in the Bauccio Commons. The evening includes a no-host social (beer and wine) at 6 p.m., dinner at 6:30, and a 7 p.m. show by the choir and UP jazz combo Secret Sauce. The theme of the performance is “A Century of Love Songs,” with music from the ragtime era to the present. Tickets are $25 for non-students and $15 for students. Bon Appetit meal points may be used for purchase for both students and their guests. Tickets must be purchased in advance by Friday, April 10, in the performing and fine arts office in Buckley Center 235, or by phone at 7228. Credit cards are accepted.

Culturally Responsive Practices Workshop, April 23
All are welcome to enjoy an interactive evening discussing culturally responsive practices at a workshop moderated by Rich Christen, education, on Thursday, April 23, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., in the Terrace Room. Christen will introduce seven panelists who, known for their expertise in this area, will each talk about inclusive topics for culturally and linguistically diverse populations. Each panel member will then join a table of participants for a lively conversation about culturally responsive teaching practices. Participants will, ideally, take away at least three practice ideas that they will be able to use in their own teaching. Peggy Maguire Lecture, March 30
The University will host a lecture by Peggy Maguire, senior vice president of corporate accountability and chief of staff for Cambia Health Solutions, on Monday, March 30, at 7:10 p.m., in Buckley Center Auditorium. Her talk, part of the Bauccio Lecture Series, is free and open to faculty, staff, students, and the public. Maguire joined Cambia in 1997 as an associate general counsel and has held several posts since then, including director of litigation and risk management, as well as vice president of legal services, before being promoted to her current position in 2008. She was presented with a 2014 Orchid Award as recognition for being a “Woman of Influence” by the Portland Business Journal.

2015 Bauccio Lecture in Entrepreneurship: April Rinne
Sharing economy expert April Rinne will present “The Sharing Economy: Rethinking Markets, Cities, and Community” at the 2015 Bauccio Lecture in Entrepreneurship on Wednesday, April 1, at 4:10 p.m., in Buckley Center Auditorium. The lecture, which concludes this year’s Bauccio Lecture Series, is free and open to faculty, staff, students, and the public.
Rinne is an expert on the linkages and opportunities between the sharing economy and cities, travel and tourism, global expansion, and emerging markets. She advises numerous companies, governments, and think tanks. She serves on sharing economy advisory boards in Seoul, Korea and Amsterdam, and is a Young Global Leader at the World Economic Forum. She is also a board member for the Worldwide Web Foundation and a member of REX.
The Bauccio Lecture Series was established with a $250,000 Defining Moment Campaign gift from University regent Fedele Bauccio, ’64, ’66, and his wife, Linda. The gift enables the University to stage a series of lectures with visiting entrepreneurs and visionaries from around the country. Divine Laughter Lecture, April 9
The Garaventa Center will host a lecture by Anita Houck, “God, Humor & Humanity: From The Iliad to The Onion” on Thursday, April 9, at 7:15 p.m., in the Holy Cross Lounge in Franz Hall. Her talk is free and open to faculty, staff, students, and the public.
Houck is chairwoman of religious studies at Saint Mary’s College in Indiana, as well as an associate professor of theology. In this lecture, she will offer the audience a whirlwind tour of humor’s history in exploring the mystery of the Divine, from Homer’s controversial depictions of the laughter of the Greek gods to the coverage of religion in Chicago’s edgy satirical newspaper. The lecture is part of the Beckman Humor Project, established by John ’42 and Patricia Beckman for a multi-disciplinary effort to study and promote humor as a “spiritual and revolutionary energy in every field of endeavor, from business to politics to the arts and beyond.”

UP Hive Network Event, March 25
The next UP Hive Network event , “IMPROVe with I mprov,” will take place on Wednesday, March 25, at 5:30 p.m., at Colorhouse (519 NE Hancock St., #B). A panel of improvisers will present ways to learn the fundamental skills of improve and how they can be applied to the business world:
- Leon Anderson has appeared in numerous comedy festivals with the improv group Whiskey Tango. By day, Leon is an engineer and uses his improvisation skills to problem solve and lead design teams.
- Rachel Van Nes graduated from UP in 2014 and serves as artistic administrative assistant at Curious Comedy Theater. Rachel got her start in improv with UP’s Bluffoons and is a proud member of Curious Comedy’s Playas as a performer, instructor and producer.
- Jed Arkley, who has 20 years of experience in improve and sketch comedy, is the founder of Arkley Rodriguez, a consulting company which helps businesses translate creative energy into workable systems that support growth and positive culture.
- Jake Michels is the educational program assistant at Oregon Children’s Theater, as well as the education director at Curious Comedy Theater. Jake produces comedy showcases and preforms regularly with the improv group Whiskey Tango.

Kate Regan Short Film Festival, March 26, Bauccio Commons
The second annual Kate Regan Short Film Festival will take place on Thursday, March 26, from 5 to 7 p.m., in the Bauccio Commons board room. The festival will feature works from UP students, faculty, and staff in five categories: Narrative, Humor, International, Documentary, or Animation. Join with the campus community for a celebration of UP storytellers and filmmakers, and of course the late Kate Regan. The film screenings and awards ceremony will include free popcorn and refreshments, a photo booth, and raffle prizes for the audience. The festival is free and open to all.
