2015 Retiring Faculty Slideshow

Ray-Bard-1992 copyThe University archives and museum have a new post on their blog featuring five members of the University faculty who will retire at the conclusion of the academic year (including the fierce young chemist at left). A slideshow of the honored retirees can be found at this link. To complement the WordPress post, the museum also has a photograph display of the retiring faculty in the display case on the first floor of Buckley Center across from the Shepard Freshman Resources Center.

Faculty Welfare Meetings

more copy1The Faculty Welfare Committee has two meetings coming up, according to committee chair Tamar More, physics. The committee will meet on Tuesday, April 1 with president-elect Fr. Mark Poorman, C.S.C., for a general conversation regarding faculty priorities and concerns. On Thursday, April 3, the committee will meet with Tom Greene, Bobbi Lindahl, and Matt Baasten to discuss UP’s summer program and scheduling issues.

Faculty Welfare Committee Meeting, Feb. 4

more copy1The Faculty Welfare Committee’s next meeting will take place on Tuesday, February 4, according to committee chair Tamar More, physics. The committee welcomes issues from faculty; in particular, at this meeting they will be discussing the faculty handbook, senate by laws, and other topics. Any concerns, suggestions, or comments regarding summer classes, or any other matter, can be brought before the committee by contacting any member: Tamar More, Mike Eom, Lara Trout, Caroline Mann, Ken Kleszynski, or Barbara Braband. Music At Midweek

University of Portland, upKen Kleszynski, performing and fine arts, will present a brief lecture about the British composer George Lloyd (1913-1998), followed by the short film “Strange Storms and Symphonies,” about Lloyd’s life and music, on Wednesday, January 29, at 12:30 p.m., in Mago Hunt Center recital hall. His presentation will be this week’s “Music at Midweek” event, which is free and open to faculty, staff, students, and the public. Faculty Welfare Committee Meeting, Nov. 11

staff & faculty portraitsThe Faculty Welfare Committee’s next meeting is on Monday, November 11, according to Tamar More, physics. University provost Tom Greene will be joining attendees at this meeting, and members welcome issues from faculty.

The Faculty Welfare Committeee is the official vehicle whereby policies concerning faculty salary, fringe benefits and working conditions are to be brought to the University administration, and serves as a negotiating team to work directly with the administrative offices on areas of interest to the entire faculty. The committee assists faculty members in cases where a particular faculty member might have a problem which does not seem to be taken care of through the regular channels.

The Committee’s role in handling any matters brought to it under this consideration will be:

  • To inform the faculty member of all the usual channels open to him/her
  • To improve communication (if necessary, to bring the parties together for a better understanding of the situation)
  • To see if correct procedures and processes are followed and that a report, when appropriate, is made to the Senate.

1aMore150The next meeting of the Faculty Welfare Committee will take place on Monday, Septem­ber 30, according to Tamar More, physics. The committee welcomes input from faculty. The Faculty Welfare Committee is charged with:

  • Serving as the official vehicle whereby policies concerning faculty salary, fringe benefits, and working conditions are to be brought to the University administration.
  • Serving as a negotiating team to work directly with the administrative offices on areas of interest to the entire faculty.
  • Assisting faculty in cases where a particular faculty member might have a problem which does not seem to be taken care of through regular channels.
