Wellness Fair

Faculty/Staff Yoga Class at Wellness Fair, Nov. 1

October 27, 2017

While visiting the Wellness Fair this week on Wednesday, November 1, please join us in our regular faculty/staff yoga class from 12:05 p.m. to 12:55 p.m., according to Kaitlin Bourne, recreational services. Also at the Wellness Fair, Beauchamp Center staff members will be offering cardio and weight room tours and demonstrations every 20 minutes beginning at 11 a.m. They will be happy to help you navigate the facility and take advantage of all it has to offer.

UP Wellness Fair Coming Nov. 3

bresnahan-copyThe UP Wellness Fair will take place on Thursday, November 3, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., according to Nicole Bresnahan, human resources. There are a limited number of openings for additional booths; please contact Bresnahan if you or a vendor you know are interested in joining the event. All vendors must be approved by the HR office. UP Wellness Fair: October 28

wellness dreamstime copyAll employees are welcome to attend this year’s UP Wellness Fair on Wednesday, October 28, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., in Franz Hall Room 120. New and longtime vendors will participate to bring UP employees the latest news about benefits, and will offer massages and great raffle prizes. The University’s employee assistance plan vendor will be here as well as other health-oriented organizations.

Annual UP Wellness Fair, Oct. 30

_1aWellness150The annual Wellness Fair sponsored by human resources will take place on Thursday, October 30, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the Terrace Room. Representatives from the University’s benefits carriers such as Kaiser, MODA, Flex-Plan, EAP Cascade, Life Insurance carriers, and TIAA-CREF will be joined by community health vendors including West Coast Fitness Center, Kenton Wellness Center, the American Cancer Society, and others. Come and enjoy healthy snacks from New Seasons, a chair massage, ear acupuncture treatments, raffle prizes, and more.

2013 UP Wellness Fair

November 1, 2013

1aWellness150The human resources office is planning their third year of hosting a UP Wellness Fair. It will take place in the Terrace Room on Wednesday, November 6, from 10 a.m to 1 p.m. Representatives from Kaiser Permanente, dental, vision, flexible spending, local consumer supported agriculture (CSA) providers, local wellness centers approved through the UP Kaiser rider for self-referral, and many other great resources will be on hand to answer questions. HR will have laptops set up and will be ready to help employees with questions on using the on-line Open Enrollment tool. Aziz Inan, Shiley School of Engineering, had his brain teaser, “A Number of Reasons to Celebrate Gert Boyle,” published in the Portland Tribune on December 4, 2019.

Barb Braband, Rebecca Gaudino, and Anissa Rogers received a Teaching Poster Award for the presentation of “Innovations in Interdisciplinary Education on Grief: An Interview Project” at the 2019 National Symposium for Academic Palliative Care Education and Research in San Diego, CA, on Oct. 12, 2019.  The 2019 National Symposium was sponsored by the Shiley Institute for Palliative Care.

Jane Scott, Clark Library, presented a poster, “Empowering ethical practices: Activities for access services” (with Heidi Senior) at the Access Services Conference, Atlanta, GA, November 2019.

Christina Ivler, Shiley School of Engineering, wrote “Frequency-Response and Frequency-Domain Models” and “Classical Frequency-Domain Design Methods” (with J. David Powell) and “Control System Optimization Methods in the Frequency Domain” in Baillieul J., Samad T. (eds) Encyclopedia of Systems and Control. Springer, London, 2019.

Buck Taylor, chemistry, wrote “Cooperative CO2 Scission by Anomalous Insertion into a Rh–Si Bond” (with Matthew Whited, Daron Janzen, and student coauthors Michael Trenerry, Jia Zhang, Theodore Donnell, Paul Peterson, Vanessa Eng) in Organometallics , November 2019 , 38 , 4420–4432.

Ami Ahern-Rindell, biology, was invited to be a member of a 3-person review panel to participate in onsite campus visits during  October 29 – November 1 to review several PUIs (Predominantly Undergraduate Institutions) in Oklahoma who are recipients of an NIH-INBRE Consortium Award. This multi-million dollar grant provides funding for 5 years to improve biomedical research across the state of Oklahoma collaboratively between research intensive universities, PUIs, and Community Colleges.

Lora Looney,  international languages and cultures, gave a faculty workshop on “Unpacking the Project First to Identify a Course’s Driving Question(s) Towards Teaching for Understanding” at the 39th Original Lilly Conference on College Teaching at Miami University in Oxford, OH, on November 22.
