A Great Year for Men’s Tennis
Portland’s men’s tennis team is off to a 12-6 start this spring with a 5-2 record in West Coast Conference play. The Pilots, led by four seniors, had won six of their last eight matches, including a big 4-3 victory over No. 64 Santa Clara on Sunday. Senior Alex Ferrero is 12-3 in dual singles matches this spring, while Michel Hu Kwo is 10-6 overall at No. 1 singles and partners with Justin Guay for a 12-3 doubles record. Portland has never finished second-place or better in WCC history and has only finished third four times, most recently in 1999. The Pilots are guaranteed at least a third place regular season finish this year with two matches remaining. The 2014 WCC Championships will be hosted by San Diego on April 23-26.
