New Title IX Coordinator Appointed

FrederkingDec2Lauretta Frederking, acting assistant provost and professor of political science, has been appointed as the University’s new Title IX coordinator. Frederking will work with Fr. John Donato, C.S.C., in his capacity as deputy Title IX coordinator for students; Matt Baasten, associate provost, in his position as deputy Title IX coordinator for faculty, and Bill Jenkins, human resources, as deputy Title IX coordinator for staff. Bryn Sopko, departing associate vice president for human resources, will complete all Title IX cases currently open and Frederking will assume responsibility for all new cases effective immediately.

Teaching & Scholarship Award Nominations Due Jan. 30

awardsThe Committee on Teaching and Scholarship is accepting faculty nominations for the 2014-2015 Teaching Award and Scholarship Award, according to committee chair Lauretta Frederking, political science. These awards are an opportunity for the University community to celebrate publicly two of its own for outstanding achievements in teaching and scholarship. The committee will accept nominations until noon on Friday, January 30, by e-mail to tas@up.edu. Submission of supporting materials by nominees will be due by noon on Friday, March 20.

Faculty Development Day Proposals Due Jan. 30

FrederkingDec2Given the success of last year’s concentration around teaching ethics across the curriculum, the Committee on Teaching and Scholarship welcomes proposals to lead Faculty Development Day on May 5, 2015, around a particular theme. Interested faculty should submit a 1-2 page proposal identifying the keynote speaker and breakout panels for session one of Faculty Development Day. Sessions later in the day will remain open as opportunities for various and distinct panels proposed by faculty across campus.

  • Butine call sent out: January 12
  • Deadline for faculty to submit applications to department chairs, dean, and chair of Committee on Teaching and Scholarship: Feb. 6, no later than noon
  • Deadline for CAS chairs and deans to submit letters, forms to Chair of TAS Committee: Feb. 13, no later than 3 p.m.
  • Notification of award recipients to provost: Mar. 20
  • Letters sent to Butine applicants: Mar. 23
  • Award list sent for publication in upbeat: Mar. 23

Faculty Teaching and Scholarship Awards:

Faculty Research Day Deadline Approaching, Dec. 1

faculty research dayThe signup deadline for Faculty Research Day is approaching on Monday, December 1, according to Teaching and Scholarship Committee chair Lauretta Frederking. Each panel in the January 8 event will have faculty from across disciplines and schools who will offer brief five-minute perspectives on the day’s theme, followed by open discussion for new insights and potential collaboration. University president Rev. Mark L. Poorman, C.S.C., and University provost Tom Greene will host a lunch to begin the afternoon, and a cocktail hour with hors d’oeuvres will complete the day.

Each panel has faculty from across disciplines and schools offering brief five-minute perspectives on the theme and then the discussion is open for new insights and potential collaboration. Butine Proposal Submissions Now Done Through Moodle

FrederkingDec2The Committee on Teaching and Scholarship cordially invites all regular faculty to submit proposals to receive funding from the Arthur Butine Faculty Development Fund. Faculty can download Butine application materials, review selection criteria, and consult the timeline for applications by visiting https://www.up.edu/academicsenate/tas/.

Submissions for post-Butine reports, new Butine submissions, and all supporting letters are now done through Moodle. The deadline for submission through Moodle and the applicants’ respective department chairs (if CAS) and deans is no later than noon on Friday, October 3, 2014. Please note also that applicants must discuss their Butine proposals with their respective deans prior to submitting applications for consideration.

The Committee on Teaching and Scholarship will host two workshops to review the Butine application process: Monday, September 8, 9-10 a.m., and Monday, September 8, 3-4 p.m., both in the Clark Library conference room.

A final reminder: All interim or completed project reports of previously funded proposals are due to Teaching and Scholarship through Moodle, as well as the appropriate dean, no later than Friday, September 26.
