“Becoming Human” Interactive Session, Nov. 18
The Garaventa Center will sponsor a community conversation with L’Arche Portland exploring the concept of “Becoming Human,” as introduced by L’Arche founder Jean Vanier, on Wednesday, November 18, 4:30-6 p.m., in Franz Hall Room 120. The event is free and open to all. Refreshments will be served.
L’Arche is an international federation dedicated to the creation and growth of homes, programs, and support networks with people who have intellectual disabilities.

“Mirror, Mirror” Pre-Play Panel and Reception, Nov. 21

Bringing Eyes of Faith to Film: “Warm Bodies,” Oct. 28
All faculty, staff, students, and the public are invited to the annual Halloween season zombie edition of Bringing Eyes of Faith to Film on Wednesday, October 28, at 7:15 p.m., in Franz Hall Room 120. This year’s feature is “Warm Bodies,” and Karen Eifler and Fr. Charlie Gordon of the Garaventa Center will precede the free screening by helping break open themes of grace, redemption, and transcendence in surprising places. Move-themed snacks will be provided.

In Our Time: 50 Years of an Evolving Jewish-Catholic Relationship, Oct. 25
The year 2015 marks 50 years since Nostra Aetate (Latin for “In Our Time”), the Declaration on the Relation of the Church with Non-Christian Religions of the Second Vatican Council, promulgated on October 28, 1965, by Pope Paul VI. A commemoration, celebration, and reflection on Nostra Aetate will take place on Sunday, October 25, 3-5 p.m., with a reception to follow at Congregation Beth Israel main sanctuary (1972 NW Flanders). The event is co-sponsored by the Garaventa Center and the Jewish Federation of Greater Portland.

Pre-Play Panel and Reception For “The Clean House,” Oct. 10
All ticketholders for the Saturday, October 10 performance of “The Clean House” are invited to enjoy a wine and cheese reception and pre-play panel, compliments of the Garaventa Center. Doors for the reception in Mago Hunt lobby open at 6:30 p.m., and at 6:45, a panel of three UP faculty members will take the recital hall stage, each getting exactly 8 minutes to illuminate a particular dimension of the play, enhancing the audience’s experience of the 7:30 p.m. show.

Bringing Eyes of Faith to Film: “DamNation,” Oct. 14
The Bringing Eyes of Faith to Film series will feature a free screening of “DamNation,” a SXSW prize winning eco-issue documentary sponsored by clothing company Patagonia. Fr. Charlie Gordon, C.S.C., and Karen Eifler, Garaventa Center, will lead a discussion of Pope Francis’s compelling encyclical Laudato Si on humans’ responsibility to the environment prior to the screening on Wednesday, October 14, at 7:15 p.m., in Franz Hall room 120.
