The Clark Library invites faculty and staff to the Seventh Annual UP Authors’ Reception this Thursday, October 15, from 3 to 4:30 p.m., on the library’s upper floor. The UP Authors’ Reception is a celebration of works published by 100 faculty and staff authors in the previous year. Drop by the reception to mingle with colleagues, see their publications, and enjoy refreshments.

All faculty and staff are welcome to develop their digital media skills in the Clark Library’s digital lab. The lab has more Macs and a projector and screen for an even better instructional environment. Fall 2015 workshops will include Mac Basics, Using Your Digital Camera, iMovie10, GarageBand, Lightroom, Illustrator, Photoshop, and 3D Printing. The Clark Library’s seventh annual UP Authors Bibliography is now available. The purpose of the bibliography is to identify staff, faculty, and student publications that will be featured at our Annual UP Authors Reception, which will be held on October 15, 2015.

As fall semester approaches, now is a great time to schedule library instruction for the best choice of dates and times. Librarians will work with faculty to tailor sessions to the students’ research needs. Classes typically meet in the Clark Library’s classroom on the upper floor. We have laptops that students can use, or they can use their own wireless enabled devices.

Clark Library staff are looking ahead and ready to tackle fall semester course reserves, according to Diane Sotak, library. To ensure that reserves are available by the start of the semester, please e-mail a list of citations to library@up.edu or fill out the online form. Library staff also handle scanning and copyright permissions, so please include course name, course number, instructor, and number of students enrolled in each section. Questions? Faculty and staff are invited to use the summer months to expand their multimedia skills. The Clark Library’s Digital Lab is offering beginner-level workshops in iMovie10, Photoshop, Lightroom, Illustrator, and InDesign. All workshops are open to current students, faculty, and staff. Please register online to claim your spot.
Faculty, staff, and students who would like to learn to create multi-touch iBooks using iBooks Author are invited to attend a free worksop on Thursday, May 28, at 10 a.m., in the Digital Lab of the Clark Library, with Peter Pappas, education (pictured). Refreshments will be served.
Pappas has published six of his own iBooks and helped his students publish two more. For more information on iBooks Author click here: http://bit.ly/iba-class. This will be a hands-on workshop and all are invited to bring content to work with, such as text files, images, or videos. Participants will leave with a demonstration iBook and the confidence to keep going.

The winning photographs for the Clark Library Juried Photography Exhibit have been announced, according to Diane Sotak, library. There were many quality entries and the jury worked diligently to narrow the field to twelve photographs. The photographs can be previewed online and they will be installed in the library soon; photos will be on display for two years. Please help library staff keep things to a whisper as students prepare for exams. In response to student feedback, all floors of the library are for quiet study through April 30. After exams, the library will close at 5 p.m. on May 1 and will also be closed on Sunday, May 3. Visit the library website to see full commencement weekend and intersession hours.
