Apply For Sabbaticals by June 15

April 8, 2016

sabbaticalApplications for sabbaticals for the 2017-2018 academic year are due along with faculty development plans to faculty members’ respective deans by June 15, 2016. All materials including letter from the dean to the provost are due to the provost’s office by September 1, 2016.

Faculty who are eligible to apply for a sabbatical must have completed seven years of full-time teaching at the University of Portland, or have completed at a minimum an additional seven years of full-time teaching since a previously funded University of Portland sabbatical.

Sabbatical requests are coordinated with departmental planning as well as the individual faculty member’s annual development plan. With careful planning the academic units have been able to take into consideration the needs of both the individual faculty member and the department or school. Additional information about sabbatical leaves can be found on page 50 of the Faculty Handbook: http://tinyurl.com/mvzbek8.

For more information contact the provost’s office at 7105 or staten@up.edu.

Phased Opening of New Residence Hall

April 8, 2016

new dormThe new residence hall on Willamette Boulevard will open in two phases: August 19 for Wing B (Willamette side) and late October for Wing A (Portsmouth side). To accommodate this timeline, the Office of Residence Life has developed a plan to ensure all students have housing. Wing A has a total of 92 students, 48 of whom are returning and 44 who are incoming students. With a first-year student residency requirement, all incoming students will be housed on campus in alternative locations during this transition. Returning residents can elect to stay on campus in extended rooms in any of the halls, including Wing B, or in Fields/Schoenfeldt study rooms. Students who choose this option will receive a $750 housing credit, including students who are temporarily gaining an extra roommate. Returning residents can also choose to stay with family or friends off campus until Wing A opens. These students will receive a pro-rated refund for the unused on-campus housing and their meal plan will remain active.

For additional information, please contact the Office of Residence Life at x7205.
