Tuition Remission Deadline
Employees are reminded that fall 2014 tuition remission requests were due by July 1 in order to avoid late charges on students’ accounts. If you forgot to turn your fall remission request in, please do so as soon as possible, and please remember you might have late fees applied at this point.
There is a separate application form for undergraduate course work (http://tinyurl.com/42haqs2) and graduate courses (http://tinyurl.com/7sx5zs8). A tuition remission summary is also available on the HR website at http://tinyurl.com/c8f6j2x.

Faculty Salary Letter Clarification
A notice to faculty who have signed up for the deferred pay plan: Salary letters recently were handed out showing all faculty as being paid out over 9 months. If you have set up the deferred pay program you will continue to be paid over 12 months beginning in September. If you prefer not to participate you need to send written instructions to stop the deferred pay to the payroll office. Tuition Remission Applications Due July 1
Faculty and staff applications for tuition remission will only be accepted via online forms and can be accessed through the human resources website at www.up.edu/hr/, according to Bryn Sopko, human resources. The HR office will no longer accept paper forms.
In addition to easier access, HR has updated the application dates for remission to match deadlines in student accounts, so please keep these dates in mind:
- Spring term: November 15
- Summer term: April 5
- Fall term: July 1.
Please note that there are separate tuition remission application forms for undergraduate and graduate course work, and that any graduate level tuition remission benefits will be taxable to the employee on the value above $5,250 for attempted credits and subject to applicable withholdings, and will be reflected on the W-2 form of the tax year the remission was applied. Flexible Spending Account Grace Period
All current FSA Plan participants had through March 15, 2014 to complete eligible transactions for the 2013 plan year. Participants now have until March 31, 2014 to file all claims for reimbursement with Flex Plan. There will be no 2013 funds available beyond this grace period.
Beginning with the 2014 plan year, all savings under the plan must be used by December 31, 2014, with the exception of up to $500, which can be rolled into the 2015 plan year and used throughout 2015.

Apply For Summer Tuition Remission By April 4, Please
Eligible employees who intend to use their tuition remission benefit during the summer semester are encouraged to apply using the online request tool no later than Friday, April 4, according to Bryn Sopko, human resources. It is required that remission requests are approved at least 2 weeks before the first class, or late charges may be applied to an employee’s account.

Any graduate level tuition remission benefit will be taxable to the employee on the value above $5,250 for attempted credits and subject to applicable withholdings and will be reflected on the W-2 of the tax year the remission was applied. Time away from an employee’s regular work day must be approved in advance by the supervisor. Tuition exchange at other universities is not available to employees.
