At the end of each year, we see many perfectly re-usable items and non-perishable food thrown away by students moving out. As we make efforts to improve our commitment to Sustainability and Social Responsibility, we recognize the part we all play in diverting waste from landfills. This semester, Residence Life, Printing & Mailing Services, and several other UP community members have worked together to coordinate opportunities for students to donate their unwanted items to give back to our community.
Each residence hall recently made donation boxes available in key locations where students have been able to place their unwanted food, clothing and household items. For students living off campus, Printing & Mailing Services made donation boxes available in their vestibule.
From Tuesday, May 3 to Thursday, May 5, the Anchor will be open every day 12:00 p.m.–2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.–6:00 p.m. University community members, staff, and students are welcome to come in, browse, and grab what they need. Leftover items will then be donated to our local community partners.
If you are interested in volunteering, please reach out to Reneé Byrd, byrd@up.edu, or Joshua Bode, bode@up.edu. We always get a lot of items each year! Even if it just an hour one afternoon, your efforts to help us sort, organize, and keep the space clean are appreciated.
