TLC Teaching Tip of the Week: Spring Digital Lab Workshops
The Clark Library Digital Lab will present several workshops this semester. Topics will include:
- Arduinos for Beginners: Workshop attendees will explore the basic functionality of Arduino microcontrollers and use online coding software to create simple programs.
- Virtual Reality (VR): Participants will be able to use an HTC Vive VR headset and controllers during this drop-in session to gain an overview of the possibilities of the technology.
- Adobe Premiere Pro: Attendees will be introduced to this professional video editing software, capable of producing high-quality videos for use in student projects.
Visit the Digital Lab (located on the upper floor of the library) or the lab’s website to register for a session. All workshops are free and last one hour. Additionally, contact José Velazco, Digital Lab coordinator, at velazco@up.edu if you would like to schedule an individual consultation on these or other multimedia topics.
Scheduling Library and Digital Lab Sessions
Ending one year leads to planning for the next! Now is a great time to schedule library instruction before the calendar fills up. The Clark Library offers instruction in two areas: information literacy and multimedia skills.
For information literacy, librarians collaborate with faculty to tailor sessions to students’ research needs. The Digital Lab coordinator provides assistance with creating assignments and instructs classes that have multimedia projects such as creating videos, digital posters, digital photography, and websites.
To request an information literacy session for your class, please email preferred dates and times to Heidi Senior at senior@up.edu. To arrange multimedia instruction, please email José Velazco at velazco@up.edu.
Clark Library: The Early Years of UP Nursing
Come see the Clark Library Gallery’s new exhibit, which provides a glimpse into the early years of the University’s first professional school. UP became involved in nursing education in 1934 when it partnered with the St. Vincent Hospital School of Nursing to offer a four-year degree program. Stop by to see historic photographs and artifacts, including a stylish nursing cape and a portable aspirator. The exhibit will be on display through March in the gallery space on the main floor.
Clark Library: ReadUP Books Available
There is still time to do some reading and participate in ReadUP. Extra copies of The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks are available at the Clark Library service desk and will be given away while supplies last. The first discussion group meets on Wednesday, February 7, and author Rebecca Skloot will give a public lecture at UP on February 26. Visit the ReadUP site for the full schedule.
Call for Spring 2018 Course Reserves
It’s time to get set up for spring semester! Clark Library staff processed over 2,500 print and online reserves for the recently completed fall semester. Now they are ready to tackle spring course reserves. Library staff handle copyright screening and scan materials to meet accessibility standards. If you plan to reuse items that were previously on reserve, let us know and we can find that list in our archive. For new course reserves, e-mail a list of citations to library@up.edu or use the online form. Please include course name, course number, instructor, and number of students enrolled in each section.

Suggested items include canned meat, canned and boxed meals, nut butters, canned or dried beans and lentils, pasta and rice, canned fruits and vegetables, juice, and cooking oil.
