Pilots Track & Field Athletes Recieve All-American Honors

track2Three Portland Pilots earned All-American honors and one received Honorable Mention for their performances during the 2016 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field season as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Woody Kincaid set a program record for the Pilots in the 5,000m at the NCAA Track and Field National Championships in Eugene. Kincaid just missed posting Portland’s third straight podium finish at the championships, coming up just one second shy of eighth place.

Lauren LaRocco came away with with two poduim appearances. LaRocco finished 4th in the 10,000m, and 48 hours later was able to finish 6th in the 5,000m.

Kaylie Van Loo topped off her junior season by taking 18th place in the javelin. Van Loo was the program’s first thrower to ever qualify for nationals.

Senior Reid Buchanan took 5th place in the 10,000m at Hayward Field. The 5th place finish ties a men’s program best finish at Nationals that has only been accomplished by two other Pilots in program history.

UP Track and Field Athletes To Compete at Nationals

trackDTFour members of the Portland Pilots men’s and women’s track and field team qualified recently for the NCAA National Championship. Woody Kincaid, Reid Buchanan, Lauren LaRocco, and Kaylie Van Loo each took top-10 finishes in their respective events at Rock Chalk Park during the NCAA West Regional competition. For the second straight year, the Pilots match a program record by sending four qualifiers to nationals. Portland also sent four student-athletes to the NCAA Track and Field Championships in 1995.

Kincaid was the top finisher for a second year in a row in the men’s 5,000m with a time of 14:09.13. Buchanan was one of four members of the men’s team to compete in the men’s 10,000m race. He was the top Pilot to finish, taking seventh with a time of 29:53.54. LaRocco first competed in the women’s 10,000m, placing sixth with a time of 34:25.40. LaRocco also qualified for nationals in the 5,000 meters as her time of 16:21.09 was good enough for ninth place. Van Loo’s throw of 167’8’’ in the javelin held off nine of the last 16 throwers, placing her in seventh overall. She will be one of the 24 student-athletes competing for a national championship in Eugene.

The four qualifying Pilots will be competing in the NCAA National Championship on June 8-11 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. For more information contact the athletics office at x7117 or go to portlandpilots.com.

Pilots Track & Field Jumps to 20th in Nation; Kincaid No. 1

woody copyThe Pilots track and field team recently jumped to 20th in national NCAA ankings, as announced by the United State Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The jump came after a strong showing over the weekend that saw senior Woody Kincaid (pictured) claim the top national time in the 3,000 meters, while teammates Reid Buchanan, Nathan DeVaughn, and Jack Welch also performed well.
