Michael Meek has been hired as the new head coach for the Pilots women’s basketball team. Meek comes to Portland from George Fox University where we he was head coach for nine seasons.
Meek led the Bruins to remarkable results including NCAA Division III championship game appearances in 2012 and 2015. He guided George Fox to eight NCAA Tournament appearances – including the last six seasons – six Northwest Conference (NWC) championships, and his teams were ranked at the end of the year seven times.
With a career collegiate coaching record of 230-35 (.868), Meek ranks fourth in career winning percentage among active coaches with five-plus years of experience at all divisions of women’s college basketball. He was named the D3hoops.com NCAA Division III National Coach of the Year in 2012 and was three times named the NWC Coach of the Year, including in 2019. He coached four players to All-America recognition, while Hannah Munger also earned Academic All-America honors in 2012.

The women are back in action this week as they look to score two home victories versus San Francisco and Pacific. The first game will take place this Thursday versus San Francisco. Make plans to come out to the Chiles Center this week as the men’s and women’s basketball teams host exhibition games at the Chiles Center. The basketball action starts on Tuesday night as the women’s team takes the court at 7 p.m., taking on the Willamette University Bearcats. Then on Friday night the men’s team takes the court against the Evergreen State College Geoducks at 7 p.m. The basketball action concludes on Saturday night at 5 p.m. as the women’s basketball team once again takes the court versus Warner Pacific.
