All faculty are invited to attend a discussion, with lunch included, about challenging classroom discussions on Wednesday, November 9, from 12:20 p.m.–1:30 p.m. in the Teske Room of Bauccio Commons. With a student body diversifying at a pace much faster than faculty demographics, along with students wanting to connect classroom experiences and content to present day phenomena, we are likely to encounter socially challenging or politically charged topics in classroom discussions. How we manage those discussions, however, can impact how useful the conversations are to our instructional goals. In the first lunch workshop we will hear from Molly Hiro, Ross Hanig, and Isabelle Soule as they share stories from their own experiences. In addition, we will discuss frameworks for how to prepare, manage, and follow up on those discussions to support more effective learning.
Seats are limited so please RSVP to Terry Favero (favero@up.edu) by November 3 to reserve a space.
