The Clark Library has completed digitizing The Log yearbook, with all years from 1935 through 2018 now viewable online and also able to be browsed by decade. This yearlong effort was finished in time for Reunion 2019 and provides alumni a way to reconnect with their UP experiences. The yearbooks are also a fascinating window into the history of the University and reflect the unique character of previous decades.

Clark Library: UP’s History Digitized
Thanks to a generous gift from Gary Malecha, political science, and Elise Moentmann, history, the Clark Library has digitized A Century of Teaching, Faith, and Service: The University of Portland 1901-2001 at http://library.up.edu/century. This companion to Jim Covert’s A Point of Pride, also digitized at http://library.up.edu/pointofpride, is a lovely photo-heavy history of our University authored by Fr. James T. Connelly, C.S.C., emeritus history. The online version is full color and searchable, making this important work available to audiences beyond campus.
Clark Library: Scheduling Summer Instruction
Are you teaching a course this summer? As you plan, remember that the librarians are available to provide library instruction. We will collaborate with you to make sure key concepts are covered and can also create course guides to support your students in their academic research and projects. To schedule a class meeting, please email preferred dates and times to Stephanie Michel at michel@up.edu. Interested in adding a video, poster, or podcast assignment to your course? Email José Velazco at velazco@up.edu to arrange multimedia instruction through the Digital Lab.
Clark Library: Faculty Research Support
Will you be working on your own research projects over the summer? The Clark Library has resources that faculty might find helpful. If you have a project involving data collection, visit our guide on data management practices and planning. If you are writing for publication, learn more about choosing where to publish and ensuring your rights as an author by visiting our guide on scholarly publishing. We also have an introductory guide to the digital humanities that provides background on this growing area of scholarship. Do you have students helping with your research? The librarians are available to meet with them and get them up-to-speed on literature searching strategies and using citation management tools for a productive workflow.
If you have more questions about how we might help, email us at reference@up.edu.
Clark Library: Survey Says!
A summary of results from the 2019 Clark Library Survey is now available. We were pleased to find that, overall, people are highly satisfied with our services and collections, and experience the library as a welcoming and respectful place. The qualitative data has great insights and we will be taking a closer look for ideas on where we can improve or adjust what we do. Many thanks to everyone who participated! We also welcome your feedback at any time; please send it to library@up.edu.
Clark Library: Call for Summer Course Reserves
Are you teaching this summer? Clark Library staff are ready to tackle summer session course reserves. We handle copyright screening and scan materials to meet accessibility standards. If you plan to reuse items that were previously on reserve, let us know and we can find that list in our archive. For new course reserves, email a list of citations to library@up.edu or use the online form. Please include the course name, course number, instructor, and number of students enrolled in each section.
Questions? Stop by the Service Desk, call x7111, or emaillibrary@up.edu. The course reserves FAQ is also available on the Course Reserves tab at http://library.up.edu.

TLC Tip of the Week: Adding Library Resource Links in Moodle
When you add a link on your Moodle course page to an article in a library database or to a streaming video, how can you tell if the link will work for students connecting from off-campus? Most library databases offer the option to obtain a persistent or stable URL for individual articles or videos, and many of those persistent URLs are automatically set up to connect through the library’s off-campus access system. However, there are exceptions to every rule, and unfortunately not all library resources provide an easy, off-campus-friendly URL for specific items. Check out the library’s Linking to Online Resources from Moodle web page for tips on finding persistent links to content within your favorite library resources, and for indications of which resources offer grab-and-go friendly links ready to be added to Moodle, and which links need a quick-and-easy edit (with instructions provided) to work from off-campus.
If you have questions about linking to library content from Moodle, or other library-related matters, contact Stephanie Michel at michel@up.edu or x7418.
Clark Library Digital Lab: Last Week of Spring Workshops
It’s not too late to try something new in 2019! There is still space in the last few spring Digital Lab workshops. Creating Electronic Music will introduce recording basics using GarageBand and Ableton Live 9. Introduction to Illustrator will focus on creating posters. Lighting Basics will cover techniques that can be used when making videos or taking photos. Workshops are free and open to current students, faculty, and staff. Visit the Digital Lab’s site to see the detailed schedule and to register online.
Clark Library Survey: Jan. 28 – Feb. 11
The Clark Library surveys the University community every three years to better understand everyone’s needs, and to gauge satisfaction with our current services and resources. We invite staff and faculty to take the survey by using this link. Responses are anonymous, but you can provide an email to be included in drawings for Powell’s gift cards. The sooner you take the survey, the more chances you’ll have to win one!
For more information contact the Clark Library at x7111 or library@up.edu.
