The University of Portland’s Speech and Debate Union successfully participated in the Orv Iverson & Krista Bacon-Vickery Memorial Forensics Tournament at Clark College in Vancouver, Washington, over the weekend of December 8-9, according to Brian Simmons and Bohn Lattin, communication studies:

Anna Murphy (business) won 1st place speaker in the Novice Division of Debate with a Bronze award

John Russell (civil engineering) advanced to the elimination rounds of Debate, Silver award

Beau Woodward (economics) advanced to the elimination rounds of Debate, Bronze award

Arthur Hammer(business) advanced to the elimination rounds of Debate, a Bronze award

Katherine Wilson (political science) won 2nd place speaker in the Open Division of Debate and advanced to the elimination rounds, a Bronze

award, and won 2nd place in the Open Division of Extemporaneous Speaking

Elizabeth Hartley (biology) won 3rd place speaker in the Open Division of Debate

Nikki Carter (civil engineering) won 2nd place in Open Division Impromptu Speaking and 3rd in the Open Division of Extemporaneous Speaking.
In addition, the University of Portland team won 3rd place overall in the tournament among participating four-year schools. For more information
