Four-hour sessions will be available at $30 per child or $40 per family on Tuesday, May 7, from 6 to 10 p.m. A non-refundable deposit is required to reserve spots, but the deposit will be applied toward childcare costs. The Faculty Awards Dinner will take place on Tuesday, May 7, beginning with a reception at 6 p.m., in the Board Room of the Bauccio Commons. Fulbright Candidates Wanted
Faculty members are encouraged to send the names of ambitious and talented rising seniors who would benefit from applying for a Fulbright Grant next October to the fellowships and grants office, according to John Orr, assistant to the provost. Students will be contacted and given assistance in starting the application process over the summer so that their files can be finalized at the start of the fall semester. National Win For The Beacon
Caitlin Yilek, who served as the 2011-2012 Beacon opinions editor, has won a national First Place Award for Editorial Writing in the Society of Professional Journalists’ Mark of Excellence Awards, for editorials she wrote for The Beacon. Two current Beacon staffers, Kate Stringer and Jackie Jeffers, are national finalists for Feature Writing and Sports Photography, respectively. The Beacon journalists competed in the “Small School” category, meaning colleges and universities with 5,000 or fewer students. Yilek, who graduated in 2012, won for her editorials titled “Where are all the women?,” “University disregards student media,” and “What has ASUP done for you?” She is now a copy editor at the in her home state of Minnesota. The student affairs division has announced the appointment of Christopher Haug as director of residence life, according to Rev. Gerald Olinger, C.S.C., vice president for student affairs. Haug most recently served as assistant director of residence life at the University of Notre Dame, where he co-chaired STAR-ND, the student affairs professional development committee, and served as the state coordinator for the Association of Student Conduct Administration (ASCA). She has served as director of the Summer Salzburg Session, chair of the Committee on Committees, member of the Academic Senate and the Senate Executive Committee, member of the CAS Curriculum Committee, and faculty advisor to the Phi Alpha Theta National Honors Society in History. Moentmann will succeed Jim Stemler, interim associate dean for students, who returned to his former position from retirement for the 2012-2013 academic year.
