NAB Poker Tournament, Jan. 17
All faculty and staff are welcome to take part in the 6th Annual National Alumni Board Poker Tournament on Friday, January 17, at 7:30 p.m., in the Chiles Center Hall of Fame Room. Entry for the Texas Hold-em tournament is $50, benefitting the NAB Scholarship Fund. Prizes include a tablet, gift cards, Pilots season tickets, and more. A buffet dinner with beverages is included, starting at 6:45 p.m. with snacks througout the evening. Limited buy-back entry fees are available. Nominate For Gerhardt Award
The Office of Alumni Relations is accepting nominations for the 2014 Thomas A. Gerhardt Award for Student Leadership, according to Ken Hallenius, alumni relations. Criteria for selection:
- Student must be a graduating senior;
- Student must have demonstrated leadership throughout his or her undergraduate career;
- Student must demonstrate consistent dedication to the University and the community through service to God and neighbor.

Next UP HIVE Event, Jan. 8
The next UP HIVE Alumni Network event will be “How to Become a Thought Leader,” on Wednesday, January 8, at Ziba Design (1044 Northwest 9th Avenue, Portland, OR 97209). The panel discussion will include Sean Madden of Ziba Design; Robb Crocker of Funnelbox Production Studios; and Laura Mansfield of PAGATIM. They will discuss the importance of separating yourself from the pack by becoming a thought leader, and how to get noticed in your field and make some money while you’re at it.
Nominate for Alumni Awards
Each year the University of Portland Alumni Association presents awards to UP alumni for outstanding contributions to their professional fields, for their dedication to volunteer endeavors, and for their ongoing support of the University and its mission. Nominations are now being taken for the 2013 Alumni Awards, with a deadline of Sunday, December 15. Alumni may be nominated in three categories:
- The Distinguished Alumni Award recognizes alumni who have rendered distinguished service to the University and to their community.
- The Rev. Thomas C. Oddo, C.S.C., Outstanding Service Award recognizes alumni who have demonstrated the University’s mission through volunteerism.
- The Contemporary Alumni Award recognizes alumni graduates of the past 15 years for significant professional contributions to the community and support of the University.

Bavarian Christmas Party, Dec. 6
All faculty and staff are invited to the Alumni and Friends Bavarian Christmas Party on Friday, December 6, from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m., in the Bauccio Commons Boardroom. The party is in honor of the Salzburg Program’s 50th anniversary, but open to all. Cost is $15 per person or $5 per child. A Trivial Affair, November 9
Alumni relations invites alumni, faculty, staff, and friends to join in Trivia Night on Saturday, November 9, starting at 7 p.m., in the Cove, according to trivial pursuer Ken Hallenius. This family-friendly evening consists of multiple rounds of questions, each round featuring a different theme. We’ll throw in some UP trivia, video questions, worksheets, and even a bit of math! Teams are welcome to bring snacks, and we welcome up to 10 people per team. A dessert buffet is included with the $7 per person entry fee, and a wine and beer cash bar will be available. The Pilot Experience card makes it easier to check out what the local area has to offer by allowing for discounts of up to 20 percent at participating restaurants, stores, service providers, and more. The cards are free to all active University of Portland students and $10 for all UP alummi, faculty, and staff, with 50 percent of proceeds going to the University of Portland Alumni Association. Currently you can purchase Pilot Experience cards at the UP alumni relations house at 6625 N. Portsmouth Ave. This program is provided by the University Park Business District.
