Karen began her career in facilities as a student custodian at the University of Montana and brings over 20 years of experience to the UP Facilities Services team. Karen spent the last four years managing the custodial services at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota. Prior to that she served at Portland Community College for nearly a decade. Karen emphasizes economic, social, and environmental sustainability in her custodial program development and operations.

New to The Bluff: Chris Brecht, Videographer and Photojournalist, Marketing & Communications
Chris comes to us with a long history of working in film and film production. Previously, he was producer and director of an international music documentary called Project ATX6. He recently relocated to Portland from Austin, Texas, with his wife, and just welcomed his first child.
New to The Bluff: Kerri Skinner, Associate Director for Integrated Communications, Marketing & Communications
Kerri joins the Marketing & Communications team after working with them for nearly a year as a contractor supporting their digital projects. She previously worked for Oregon Food Bank for seven years managing their digital communication strategy. Outside of work she enjoys getting out in nature and spending time with her daughter and son.
New to The Bluff: Matthew Talavera, General Manager of Food Services at Bon Appétit, University of Portland
Matthew grew up in San Jose California watching his grandmother cook amazing Mexican food, which is where his inspiration to become a Chef started.
After four 4 years in the Marine Corps, he went came back to California to attend culinary school at the California Culinary Academy. Matthew has had a long career in food service spanning over 3 decades, working in fine dining, wineries, bed and breakfasts, retail, and education.
Matthew has been with Bon Appétit for 7 years, and feels it is the perfect fit for his love of local and sustainable food. He has been at Reed College for the last 6 years and is excited about the move to the University of Portland!
When he’s not working, he loves cooking at home, going out to eat, hiking, and hanging out with his family and his dog!

Jony Gregory joined the Campus Ministry and Residence Life teams this past summer as Pastoral Resident in Fields Hall. He previously worked as Assistant Headmaster & English teacher at St. Philip’s High School & College in Dinajpur, Bangladesh.
New to The Bluff: Taylor Miller-Lim, Housing Coordinator
Taylor Miller-Lim joined UP last year as Housing Coordinator in the Office of Residence Life. Prior to this she was the Housing and Meal Plan Coordinator at Seattle Pacific University.
New to The Bluff: Grant Maxfield, Office of Residence Life Office Manager
Grant Maxfield joined UP last year as Office Manager in the Office of Residence Life. Prior to this he worked at UP in Facilities Services. He has also worked in politics and fundraising.
