TLC From The TLC: Internationalization Support

Over the past few years, internationalization efforts have increased throughout the University, according to Kimberly Ilosvay, education. Campus activities with global opportunities are well-attended and courses have been redesigned to included international, intercultural, and global topics for discussion and action. In the quest to expand “culturally-engaging curricular opportunities and promote knowledge, skills, and dispositions for successful interaction in diverse environments,” you might find yourself searching for valid and reliable assessment tools that can be used across campus or simply with one course (Strategic Plan 2020, D 2.5). The following links are various well-known instruments to support your work.

The Global Perspective Inventory (GPI) – The GPI emphasizes cognitive, intrapersonal, and interpersonal dimensions, which provide a holistic approach to assessing learning and development.

The Intercultural Communication Institute – This site has 14 assessment instruments with details about the purpose for each assessment, guides to administering them, and ideas about how the outcomes can help you in future planning.

Silent Auction for Nicaragua Immersion, Dec. 4 – Dec. 8

The annual Silent Auction fundraiser to benefit the Nicaragua Immersion service trip is coming up, from Monday, December 4 to Friday, December 8, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., in the Bauccio Commons.

Please stop by to meet the students who will be participating in this immersion and bid on some amazing gift items in a wide range of prices. There are handcrafted items from Matagalpa, Nicaragua, homemade tasty treats prepared by UP Staff, vintage items, certificates for services including babysitting, gift baskets and a 4 hour boat ride for 8-10 people!

Clark Library Food Drive: Now To Dec. 20

Have any extra, unused items in your pantry after Thanksgiving? The Clark Library is collecting food donations for the Oregon Food Bank from now until December 20. All faculty and staff are asked to help us reach our 2017 goal of 300 pounds. Any food donation you can make will help the families of Oregon and Southwest Washington. Collection barrels will be in the library lobby so you can easily contribute to this effort. Suggested items include canned meat, canned and boxed meals, nut butters, canned or dried beans and lentils, pasta and rice, canned fruits and vegetables, juice, and cooking oil.

Concert Ticket Discount for UP Community

Faculty, staff, and students who would like to attend 99.5 The Wolf’s Hometown Holiday Show concert in the Chiles Center can receive a $10 discount on tickets, according to Sean Ducey, university events. Winter Break Bauccio Commons Dining Hours

December 1, 2017

Bon Appetit will observe winter break hours from Friday, December 15 (8 a.m. to 6 p.m.) to Monday, January 15, 2018, when dining hours will return to the regular schedule. The Pilot House will be closed from December 16 through January 14. For more information contact Bon Appetit at this link.

Aziz Inan, Shiley School of Engineering, was in high demand last week thanks to the 22 palindrome dates which occur this year, including Inauguration Day (1-20-21).
