Jen has spent more than two decades in the field of study abroad, starting as a Peer Advisor at her alma mater at Pacific Lutheran University after her junior year abroad in Freiburg, Germany.
New to the Bluff – Michael McNerney, Director of Campus Safety
Michael is excited to return to the Bluff and the Department of Campus Safety and Emergency Management. He has spent the last nineteen years working in various aspects of the higher education campus safety industry, as a Campus Safety officer, dispatch supervisor, Community Emergency Response Team Trainer, and most recently as the Physical Security Manager reporting to the Chief of Police at Portland State University.
New to the Bluff – Joanna Cecilio, Director of the Moreau Center for Service and Justice
Joanna “Jo” Cecilio joins us as the new Director of the Moreau Center for Service and Justice. Jo is a native of Los Angeles, California. She returns to UP after serving a year as Catholic Chaplain for Faith Formation at Georgetown University and serving four years as Rector of Cavanaugh Hall at the University of Notre Dame. She earned a BA in Social Work and Spanish from UP in 2011.

UP Athletics Manager of Communications, Kyle Garcia, earns two honors in the 2022-23 Fred Stabley Sr. Writing Contest
Presented by College Sports Communicators, the national organization of strategic, creative, and digital communicators in college athletics. Winners are selected by a panel of regional judges, with this year’s contest seeing 395 story submissions. A winner and a runner-up are selected from each district across seven categories.
New to the Bluff – Brother Pablo Quan, Program Manager for Service and Justice
Br. Pablo Quan, CSC recently joined the Moreau Center as our new Program Manager for Service and Justice. Before starting his role at the Moreau Center, Br. Pablo was Hall Director of Christie Hall here at the University of Portland.
