Society Of Women Engineers Career Fair, Feb. 27

engineering grantThe SWE Engineering and Computer Science Career Fair will take place on Friday, February 27, from 1 to 4 p.m., in Shiley Hall. The fair is open to all current UP students and alumni. Recruiters from approximately 40 companies will be on campus to talk to engineering and computer science students about summer jobs, internships, and full-time opportunities.

Students are encouraged to take advantage of extended express advising hours to have their resumes reviewed, Monday-Thursday, February 23-26, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will also be “How to Work a Job Fair” workshops on Monday, February 23, 1:30 and 4 p.m.; Tuesday, February 24, 1 4 p.m.; Wednesday, February 25, 1:30 and 4 p.m.; and Thursday, February 26, at 1 p.m.

Telle Whitney Lecture

March 4, 2013

Telle Whitney, president and CEO of the Anita Borg Institute for Women and Technology, will speak on the University campus on Thursday, March 21, at 7 p.m., in Buckley Center Auditorium. Her talk is free and open to faculty, staff, students, and the public.

The lecture, titled “Lessons Learned: The Journey of One Technical Woman,” is co-sponsored by Shiley School of Engineering, Society of Women Engineers, the Pamplin School of Business Administration, and the Center for Entrepreneurship. A reception will follow.

Whitney will draw on her own experience as a technical woman, an entrepreneur, and as an executive in both the corporate and non-profit worlds to provide a roadmap of how to achieve your dreams, why understanding the broader impact of 0ne’s decisions can make a difference, the importance of the marriage between technical expertise and innovative thinking, and more.

She has received numerous awards including the 2008 Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) Distinguished Service Award, the 46th annual Marie Pistilli Women in Electronic Design Automation (EDA) Achievement Award, the Women’s Venture Fund Highest Leaf, and many more. She serves on the advisory boards of Caltech’s Information Science and Technology Initiative, the California Institute for Telecommu­nications and Information Technology, and Illuminate Ventures.
