The NCAA has announced that the University of Portland men’s tennis and beach volleyball teams have earned Public Recognition Awards based on their most recent multi-year Academic Progress Rate. The awards are given each year to teams with APRs in the top 10 percent their respective sport. Both programs logged perfect scores of 1,000 during the multi-year rates from 2013-17. A total of 42 University of Portland teams have earned Public Recognition Awards since the program’s inception in 2005.
The APR measures eligibility, graduation and retention each semester or academic term and provides a clear picture of the academic performance for each team in every sport. All teams must meet an academic threshold of 930 to qualify for the postseason and can face penalties for continued low academic performance. UP has never faced penalties since the APR program has been in play.
