Music at Midweek, March 13: XX Digitus Duo

This week’s Music at Midweek event will feature the piano duo, XX Digitus Duo, on Wednesday, March 13, at 12:30 p.m., in Mago Hunt Center Recital Hall. The performance is free and all are welcome.

Made up of Maria Garcia and Momoko Muramatsu, XX Digitus Duo is based in Portland and has gained wide acclaim for enthralling performances of four-handed piano pieces (hence “20 Fingers” Duo). Find out more about XX Digitus Duo at this link.

Music at Midweek, Feb. 27: Glazier & Ugorich

February 22, 2019

This week’s Music at Midweek featured Jackie Glazier on clarinet and Ivan Ugorich on piano on Wednesday, February 27, at 12:30 p.m., in Mago Hunt Center Recital Hall. Music at Midweek is free and open to all.

Glazier is an active soloist, chamber musician, orchestral clarinetist, pedagogue, and advocate of new music. She was appointed assistant professor of clarinet at the University of Arizona Fred Fox School of Music in 2016. Ugorich has performed with full-time orchestras including the Florida Orchestra, Sarasota Orchestra and Orlando Philharmonic. Additionally, he served for two seasons as principal violist of Symphony Orchestra Augusta, Georgia. He also teaches at the Fred Fox School of Music.

Music at Midweek: Composer Evan Mack, Feb. 20

The next Music at Midweek will feature composer Evan Mack lecturing about his compositional process on Wednesday, February 20, at 12:30 p.m., in Mago Hunt Center Recital Hall. Music at Midweek is free and open to all.

Mack is an American composer, librettist, and pianist. He is highly esteemed as a gifted composer by music industry members and colleagues, and composed the music and libretto for his opera, Angel of the Amazon, which will be presented on campus on Saturday, February 23, at 7:30 p.m., in Buckley Center Auditorium. The opera presents the story of Sr. Dorothy Stang and her 2005 martyrdom as she worked to help the poor in the Brazilian rainforest.

Music at Midweek: Andreas Klein, Oct. 3

The next Music at Midweek performance will feature world renowned pianist Andreas Klein on Wednesday, October 3, at 12:30 p.m., in Mago Hunt Center Recital Hall. His performance is free and open to all.

Klein studied at the Julliard School and has toured Europe, the Middle East, and the USA, appearing on major concert series in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Washington DC, Cleveland, Houston, and Seattle, to name a few. He is widely admired as a pianist of rare sensitivity and musicality. The Washington Post has praised his “articulate and flowing pianism” while the New York Times called him “a pianist who makes silences sound like music.”

Music at Midweek: Rebecca Hays, Susan McDaniel

This week’s Music at Midweek performance features Rebecca Hays, soprano, accompanied by Susan McDaniel, performing and fine arts, on piano on Wednesday, September 26, at 12:30 p.m., in Mago Hunt Center Recital Hall. The performance is free and open to all.

Hays is an award-winning opera singer who has received the prestigious Gerda Lissner Foundation Award twice. She has performed around the world in Europe and venues across the United States. She is a member of the faculty at Texas Tech University, and her repertoire includes “Carmen,” “The Marriage of Figaro,” “The Magic Flute,” “La Bohème,” and many others.

Susan McDaniel has appeared widely as a soloist and chamber musician, including recitals in France, Germany, Switzerland, and the Czech Republic. She has been the resident pianist on All Classical’s Thursdays@Three live radio broadcast, a member of the music staff at Seattle Opera, Portland Opera, and Utah Festival Opera, and has worked as music director and pianist for the San Diego Opera Ensemble, Off-Center Opera (Seattle), and Puget Sound Concert Opera. She teaches and accompanies at the University of Portland and Linfield College.
