The University of Portland’s Dorothy Day Social Work Program, in collaboration with its Studies Abroad and Spanish programs, has been awarded a $10,000 Katherine A. Kendall International Social Work Grant, sponsored by the Council on Social Work Education.
The grant will allow the University’s social work program to make significant improvements to their curriculum with regard to international content, and will support collective efforts to reestablish a studies abroad program in Latin America that will serve all UP social work students.
The Katherine A. Kendall Institute for International Social Work Education seeks to prepare educators, researchers, students, and practitioners for an increasingly global community through its programs and initiatives. Established with contributions to an endowment in honor of renowned social work pioneer Katherine A. Kendall (pictured, 1910-2010), the Institute promotes standards of excellence for international social work to integrate related concepts into social work curricula and seeks to enrich perspectives, understandings, collaboration, and networking within the social work community.
