The annual University of Portland Jazz Festival will be held on April 17-18, 2019 at the Chiles Center. This event will feature performances by high school and middle school jazz bands from throughout the region, who will also receive clinics from area jazz musicians and educators. High school bands will perform throughout the day on Wednesday, April 17, and middle school bands will perform throughout the day on Thursday, April 18.
This year’s guest artist will be legendary saxophonist Charles McPherson, who will present concerts with the UP Jazz Ensemble on Wednesday, April 17, at 6 p.m. and Thursday, April 18, at 11:30 a.m. He will also give master classes on Wednesday, April 17 at 12:30 p.m. and on Thursday, April 18 at 10:15 a.m. McPherson will be joining the UP Jazz Festival after recent performances at Lincoln Center (New York) and the Kennedy Center (Washington, D.C.). All events will be held in the Chiles Center on the University of Portland campus and are free and open to the public.
