Charlie Gordon, C.S.C., will celebrate 10 years of their Bringing Eyes of Faith to Film series with a free showing of Groundhog Day at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday, February 19, in Shiley Hall room 301. Enjoy themed movie snacks as Eifler and Fr. Charlie unpack surprising themes of grace and transcendence in this comedic classic.

Final ReadUP Discussion Group, Feb. 22

All UP faculty, staff and students are invited to discuss this year’s ReadUP selection, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, in a final discussion group facilitated by Fr. Charlie Gordon, C.S.C., on Thursday, February 22, from noon to 1 p.m., in the Library Conference Room. Philosophy professor Thompson Faller, beloved retired member of our UP community, will join the conversation to add his knowledge of medical ethics. Light refreshments will be served; participants are encouraged to bring their lunch if desired. Faith To Film Series Returns

The Garaventa Center is pleased to announce the slate for this semester’s Bringing Eyes of Faith to Film Series, in which hosts Fr. Charlie Gordon, C.S.C., theology, and Karen Eifler, education, screen recent popular movies, preceded by some brief comments illuminating themes of grace, transcendence, and redemption found in these unexpected places. This spring, look for “Brave” on Wednesday, February 6, “Hunger Games” on Tuesday, March 5, and “The Avengers” on Wednesday, April 24. All films begin at 7:15 in Shiley 301. Thematic snacks are part of the experience. The series is free and open to faculty, staff, students, and the public.

Matthew Warshawsky, International Languages and Cultures, presented “‘A Woman So Perfect Keeping the Law’: The Crypto-Jewish Faith of Justa Méndez in Colonial Mexico.” The 34th Annual Conference of the Society for Crypto-Judaic Studies (presented virtually). October 27, 2024.

David Fuentes, Nursing and Health Innovations, presented “Bridging the Skills across Human and Artificial Intelligence Coaching Strategies to Boost Peer-Coaching & Self-Coaching Skills.” Co-presenter: Dave Houglum, PhD. Lightning Session of the Catholic Higher Education and AI Conference at University of Portland. The session briefly highlighted some of the innovations concerning the use of AI in leadership coaching, practice/training, and coaching ongoing developmental growth. October, 2024. Fuentes also presented: “Using Project Management Methodologies to Align General Education Assessment, Program Review, and Accreditation Simultaneously.”; “Systems-Thinking and Relationship Building to Address Accreditation and Institutional Efficiency.”; “Promoting Institutional Culture through Assessment Policy Development and Maximizing Stakeholder Engagement through Organizational Learning.” Co-presenters: S. Dave Houglum, Director of Leadership Studies and Leadership Professor of Practice, Franz Center for Leadership, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation, presented nine, one-hour invited leadership presentations for the European Leadership Programme in Brussels, Belgium. Houglum also provided individual leadership coaching sessions to many of the programme’s Fellows and to the staff of the Jesuit European Social Center (JESC). The European Leadership Programme draws emerging leaders from across Europe to participate in a five-month leadership development programme. October 12-16, 2024.
