The University of Portland is subject to routine bi-annual fire inspections by the Portland Fire Bureau-Fire Marshal’s office. The fire inspector will visit UP buildings and check for fire life safety violations. These routine fire inspections reduce the potential for fire and associated loss or damage property. Please take a few minutes to review the list below and correct any hazards in your work space:
- Remove any obstruction and or combustible material from exit ways, stairways, stairwells, and fire escapes.
- Discontinue the use of any extension cord or multi-plug adapter, unless it is a surge protected power strip.
- Ensure there is a 3 foot clearance and nothing blocking access to electrical panels around your work space.
- Ensure exit routes are clearly marked, and exit signs are illuminated.
- Ensure there are minimal combustibles (paper) in your work space or office that could block your egress from the building.
- Ensure no door props or wedges are used on a door that has an automatic closer.
