Fire Drills Coming In Campus Buildings

August 26, 2016

rook copyThe public safety office will be conducting fire drills within the first two weeks of the 2016-2017 school year for all academic buildings, according to Jeff Rook, public safety. All are asked to be aware that when the fire alarm is activated in any building, all personnel must evacuate through the nearest and safest exit. If you are in a class setting, please direct all students to leave the building and wait outside, at least 50 feet away from the building. Public safety and Portland Fire Bureau officials will give an “all-clear” before anyone can re-enter the building.
Fire drills are required during each semester by the Portland Fire Bureau. Public safety apologized for any inconvenience they may cause, but thank all students, faculty, and staff for their participation.

Please Review Fire Hazards List

November 10, 2014

hThe University of Portland is subject to routine bi-annual fire inspections by the Portland Fire Bureau-Fire Marshal’s office. The fire inspector will visit UP buildings and check for fire life safety violations. These routine fire inspections reduce the potential for fire and associated loss or damage property. Please take a few minutes to review the list below and correct any hazards in your work space:

  • Remove any obstruction and or combustible material from exit ways, stairways, stairwells, and fire escapes.
  • Discontinue the use of any extension cord or multi-plug adapter, unless it is a surge protected power strip.
  • Ensure there is a 3 foot clearance and nothing blocking access to electrical panels around your work space.
  • Ensure exit routes are clearly marked, and exit signs are illuminated.
  • Ensure there are minimal combustibles (paper) in your work space or office that could block your egress from the building.
  • Ensure no door props or wedges are used on a door that has an automatic closer.

For more information contact Jeff Rook, public safety, at 7161 or rook@up.edu.
