The University has established the Catherine Bigelow Gullickson Memorial Scholarship to honor a 1982 alumna who touched the lives of many during her career as a nurse. Catherine Gullickson passed away in November 2014 after an 11-year battle with breast cancer. To date, over 120 of Catherine’s friends, classmates, and family members have contributed $106,000 to the scholarship. Husband Jeff Gullickson and family have set a goal to match donations and grow the endowment to fund multiple student nurses in perpetuity.
Gullickson was a four-year tennis player at UP and graduated magna cum laude. She started her career working the graveyard shift in a nursing home, then moved to a hospital where she worked in multiple departments, ultimately finding her calling in the emergency room.
