State of UP and Alumni Awards

University president Rev. E. William Beauchamp, C.S.C., will give his annual State of the University Address and present the Alumni Awards on Tuesday, March 19. The luncheon is at the Multnomah Athletic Club, 1849 S.W. Salmon. Doors open at 11:30 a.m., with the program from noon to 1 p.m. Seating is limited. Cost is $20 per person ($5 for students), or $200 for a table of 10. Register online at http://rise.up.edu/events.

Fr. Beauchamp’s talk will include an update on the $175 million RISE Campaign for the University of Portland, the University’s achievements in athletics and academics, and other factors affecting the University’s short-and-long-term success. Also on the agenda will be the annual Alumni Awards. This year’s winners are John Lee ’64, ’73, winner of the Distinguished Alumni Award; Jack Roscoe ’64, winner of the Fr. Tom Oddo, C.S.C. Outstanding Service Award; Holly Lynn Ellis ’01, winner of the Contemporary Alumni Award; and UP senior Noelle Niedo ’13, winner of the Thomas A. Gerhardt ’55 Memorial Award for Student Leadership. David Fuentes, Nursing and Health Innovations, presented “Bridging the Skills across Human and Artificial Intelligence Coaching Strategies to Boost Peer-Coaching & Self-Coaching Skills.” Co-presenter: Dave Houglum, PhD. Lightning Session of the Catholic Higher Education and AI Conference at University of Portland. The session briefly highlighted some of the innovations concerning the use of AI in leadership coaching, practice/training, and coaching ongoing developmental growth. October, 2024. Dave Houglum, Director of Leadership Studies and Leadership Professor of Practice, Franz Center for Leadership, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation, presented nine, one-hour invited leadership presentations for the European Leadership Programme in Brussels, Belgium. Houglum also provided individual leadership coaching sessions to many of the programme’s Fellows and to the staff of the Jesuit European Social Center (JESC). The European Leadership Programme draws emerging leaders from across Europe to participate in a five-month leadership development programme. October 12-16, 2024.
