Each year on Veterans Day, Army and Air Force ROTC cadets stand as a guard of honor at the Praying Hands/Broken Wall Memorial for 24 hours in gratitude to those who have served to protect our country. The names of individuals from Columbia Preparatory School, Columbia University, and University of Portland who died in service are inscribed on the memorial in recognition of their sacrifice.
Our latest PortLog post highlights the story of one of those honored veterans—Corporal Charles Edward McCrystal, Class of 1943, who died in service in 1944. Eddie’s story—and the premonition-letter written to his parents just weeks before he died—is shared in this special Veterans Day post from the UP Archives and Museum.
