Four University of Portland athletics teams have been honored for earning Public Recognition Awards based on their most recent multi-year academic progress rate (APR), according to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Men’s soccer, men’s indoor track, women’s cross country, and women’s indoor track were recognized for having APRs in the top 10 percent their respective sport. The women’s indoor track team earned its sixth straight Public Recognition Award. Men’s indoor track was recognized for the fifth time, while women’s cross country has now been honored each of the last four years. This is the first honor for the men’s soccer program.
Portland has had a total of 37 different teams earned Public Recognition Awards since the program’s inception in 2005. The APR measures eligibility, graduation and retention each semester or quarter and provides a clear picture of the academic performance for each team in each sport.
