The four endowed chairs at the University of Portland (UP) will award up to $10,000 in grant funding to a team or teams of two or more faculty members from different disciplines for the purpose of creating new integrated courses at UP. This collaborative effort by the endowed chairs is in celebration of the 20th anniversary of the creation of the endowed chair roles at UP and in commemoration of the purpose of the endowed chairs, which is to be change agents that reach across the University to celebrate the status and import of the University of Portland. Integrative classes are an extension of this cross-campus, cross-disciplinary mission of the chairs and it is appropriate that the chairs stimulate and enhance efforts of faculty to do the same.
For a team to be eligible for grant funding, the team must have members from at least two different schools or departments and the course developed must be team-taught with an emphasis on examining course content through at least two different “lenses.”
The criteria for award the grant are as follows:
1) the creativity and/or uniqueness of the proposal
2) the potential impact of the course on learning at UP
3) feasibility of offering the proposed integrative course
4) the potential for having an impact on a wide variety of students
The deadline for submission of proposals is November 20, 2014. Awardees will be announced at Teaching and Scholarship Faculty Research Day in January 2015. The winning team or teams are expected to offer the integrated course in fall 2015 or spring 2016.
