West Coast Conference Webinar: ACT! to Support WCC Athlete Mental Health (Feb. 12)

The conference office is pleased to announce our mental health webinar series and partnership with the U.S. Center for Mental Health & Sport. This interactive and engaging webinar is the first half of the U.S. Center for Mental Health & Sport’s ACT! Mental Health Awareness Certification and will highlight the factors in sport that serve to protect athletes. The webinar will also look at factors that put athletes at risk of experiencing mental health challenges, and it will suggest ways to provide support. (Read more.)

Author Talk with Michael O’Loughlin: “Hidden Mercy” (Feb. 13)

The Garaventa Center invites you to an author talk with journalist Michael O’Loughlin as he discusses his book: “Hidden Mercy: AIDS, Catholics, and the Untold Stories of Compassion in the Face of Fear”. O’Loughlin’s book uncovers many profound stories of Catholics who chose compassion, often at great personal cost, during the height of the AIDS crisis in the United States. (Read more.)

2024 Excellence in Service Award—Call for Nominations (Due Feb. 23)

Service of Prayer & Light (Jan. 23)

A Service of Prayer & Light will be held on Tuesday, January 23, at 4 p.m. in the Chapel of Christ the Teacher. This service is intended to reflect the diversity of faiths and cultures that make University of Portland a strong and vibrant place. We will share the light of candles with one another as a symbol of the faith, hope, charity, compassion, and care that unite the UP community. We will also distribute cards of gratitude and affirmation that community members may send to fellow Pilots throughout the semester. (Read more.)

2024-25 FAFSA Online Application is Now Open

January 22, 2024

The Department of Education has announced that the 2024-25 FAFSA is open 24/7. The 2024-25 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) opened intermittently on December 31, 2023, with limited hours of access during their “soft launch.” While there are still a few known implementation issues, the application is now working for most students/families. Dave Houglum, Director of Leadership Studies and Leadership Professor of Practice in the Franz Center for Leadership, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation, facilitated a multi-day series of invited leadership development workshops for the staff team at Lutherhaven Ministries in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Houglum led six interactive sessions focused on DiSC-informed leadership, coaching-centered leadership, servant leadership and accompaniment, powerful feedback, and the co-creation of team commitments to support healthy culture and sustainable impact. In addition, Houglum provided multiple individual leadership coaching sessions for staff members throughout the engagement. January 2026.

Christi Richardson-Zboralski, Director of Marketing – Graduate Programs, published a short story under pen name, Christi R. Fr. Pat Hannon, CSC, published From Glory to Glory: A Pilgrim’s Notes From the Badlands of Grace.
