He served as Moderator, Catholic Theological Society of America, in June 2018, and moderated the Black Catholic Consultation Group Session at the Catholic Theological Society of America annual conference, Indianapolis, Indiana, June 7 – 10, 2018. Focus of the Sessions was “Amazing Grace: Structures of Grace in the Black World.” He was elected to a three-years appointement as Convener of the Black Catholic Consultation Group at the Catholic Theological Society of America during the annual meeting held in Indianapolis, Indiana, June 7 – 10, 2018; and served as convener, Black Catholic Consultation Group/Catholic Theological Society of America, June 2018.
Dann Pierce, communication studies, presented “Subtle Visual Persuasion in Back-of-the-Head Shots in Mad Men ,” (with Rebekah Markillie), a competitively selected research paper for the annual meeting of the Rhetoric Society of America, Minneapolis (June 2018).
Casey Shillam and Lindsay Benes, nursing, are among 49 nursing faculty chosen by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) to participate in the 2018 Leadership for Academic Nursing Program (LANP), which will be held July 29-August 2 in Chaska, Minnesota. LANP is designed for those who have experience in academic administration and aspire to more senior administrative or executive positions within the nursing academic unit. The year-long fellowship provides participants with a focused assessment experience, a range of content and exercises related to successful executive leadership, and the opportunity to establish a peer network that fosters long-term partnerships and collegial support.
Ami Ahern-Rindell, biology, attended and presented at the annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science Pacific Division held at California State Polytechnic University in Pomona, CA, June 12-15. The talk was titled “An International and Multidisciplinary Research Collaboration in the Ancient City of Pollentia in Mallorca, Spain,” as part of The Practice, Communication, and Ethics of Interdisciplinary Research Symposia sponsored by Sigma Xi, the Scientific Research Honor Society. The presentation was co-authored with recent graduate (2018) Raluca Gosman who travelled with Ahern-Rindell and her other research students to Mallorca in July 2016 as part of the UP PURE Program, and a result of the Dundon-Berchtold 2017-2018 faculty-student collaboration on the Ethics of Working with Human Remains.
