According to Sr. Angela Hoffman, chemistry, five UP students presented research at the national American Chemical Society meeting in New Orleans on March 19th: Madeline Otto: “Isolation of antibacterial and antifungal activity of ancient soil sediment actinomycetes;” Siva Ho: “Purifying potential cancer-inhibiting compounds in basket plant (Callisia fragrans);” Coyla Munson: “White turnip peroxidase enzymatic stability with calcium chloride and ethylene glycol;” Jessica Chung: “Antibiotics from actinomycete bacteria with activity against E. coli;” and Matthew Foronda: “Repurposing the anticancer drug cisplatin for a post-antibiotic era” (REU at Kent State last summer).

Matthew Warshawsky, international languages and cultures, had his article “La Égloga III de Garcilaso de la Vega en Don Quijote: tejiendo telas más allá de la poesía pastoril” (“Eclogue III of Garcilaso de la Vega in Don Quixote: Weaving Cloth beyond Pastoral Poetry”) published in the journal Alba de América (Dawn of América), vol. 37 (2018).
