Biology department faculty Laurie Dizney, Ryan Kenton, and Christine Weilhoefer were all chosen to participate on the University of Portland REFLECT TEAM for the STEM Innovation National Science Foundation Grant to promote science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) teaching.
Karen Eifler, Garaventa Center, presented “A New Pathway to Leadership in Catholic Higher Education” on February 3 at the annual meeting of the Association of Catholic Colleges and Universities in Washington, DC. She also presented a weekly Lenten series of evening retreats for Portland’s All Saints Episcopal Church community, focused on “Radical Hospitality, Convertio, and Inclusion and Diversity,” using illuminations from The Saint John’s Bible to unpack those themes.
Cara Poor, engineering, had her paper, “The role of mycelium in bioretention systems: evaluation of nutrient retention in mycorrhizae-inoculated mescocosms” (with student coauthors Casey Balmes, Ashley Martinez, and Michael Freudenthaler, published in Journal of Environmental Engineering 144: 04018034 (March 2018).
