Bob Butler, environmental studies emeritus, presented “How GPS Teaches Us About Cascadia Earthquakes” (with Roger Groom, Mt. Tabor Middle School) at the Oregon Science Teachers Association Meeting at Portland Community College, Sylvania Campus, on October 14.
John Watzke, education, presented “Building Capacity Through Partnership: The Multnomah County Partnership for Education Research” (with co-presenters: Jacqueline Waggoner, Bruce Weitzel, Nicole Ralston, and Rebecca Smith) at the annual Oregon Program Evaluation Network conference, October 4, 2017, in Portland, Oregon.
Sarina Saturn, psychological sciences, has a chapter in the newly released Oxford Handbook of Compassion Science entitled, “Two Factors that Fuel Compassion: The Oxytocin System and the Social Experience of Moral Elevation.” She also gave a presentation on the neuroscience of trauma and self-care at the Women in Prison conference put on by the Oregon Justice Resource Center on October 21-22 in Portland, Oregon, and gave a workshop entitled, “The Neuroscience of Trauma & Teaching with Resilience” for Love Hive’s teaching training on October 20 in Portland, Oregon.
Dave Houglum, Franz Center, served as the panel presentation organizer and as a panelist for “Educating the Whole Person During Turbulent Times Through the Integration of Faith and Leadership” (with panelists Kem Gambrel, Josh Armstrong, and Dung Tran) at the 19th Annual Global Leadership Conference of the International Leadership Association, October 14, 2017, in Brussels, Belgium.
Patricia Cox, nursing, presented “Early Onset Parkinson’s Disease: What NPs Need to Know” with her colleague from WSU, Melody Rasmor, at the 40th Annual Nurse Practitioners of Oregon Education Conference, October 4-7, at Salishan, Gleneden Beach. Cox and Pamela Potter, nursing, also presented “Getting in Touch: An Integrative Nursing Approach.”
