Karen Eifler, Garaventa Center, was invited to provide full-day retreats on the topics “Truth(iness), Technology and Totalitarianism,” “Greening With Hildegard of Bingen,” and “Our Faith Will Move Mountains” to the faculties of Central Catholic High School as well as All Saints and St. Luke grade schools in their lead up to the school year.
Lindsay Lancaster Benes, was accepted into the Training Institute in Dissemination Research in Health (TIDIRH), a competitive program run by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and Veterans Administration (VA). The program aims to provide researchers with a thorough grounding in dissemination and implementation research in an effort to reduce the gap between what we know can optimize health and health care and what actually gets implemented in everyday practice.

Nick McRee, sociology, held an appointment as visiting scholar at Hitotsubashi University in Japan during summer 2017. He presented “The Curious Case of Shifting Crime Patterns in Japan: Implications for Criminological Theory” at the 12th International Conference for Interdisciplinary Social Sciences in Hiroshima, Japan.
Kim Spir, engineering, was credentialed by the IAAF and USATF federations as an international photographer to chronicle the 10 days of the IAAF World Track and Field Championships in London August 5-13, 2017. She was on the finish line to record Usain Bolt’s last track races in the 100 metres and 4×1 relay and has been asked to serve as a media consultant for the 2021 World Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
